It was a good place to stop for an overnight stay as we were going to our sons 40th birthday party, which was just a few minutes down the road from the hotel. The room was clean and tidy, as was the toilet. There were coffee and tea making facilities in the room as well as the usual hair dryer and iron. So all positive. The receptionist was pleasant and quickly booked us into our room. As we were eating and drinking at our sons, we couldn't comment on the bar facilities at the hotel as we didn't use it that night.
With a popular restaurant and cosy bar, Kings Croft Hotel offers free parking and free Wi-Fi. Situated just outside Pontefract, the hotel is a 5-minute drive from Pontefract Racecourse.

So a short notice booking to see someone in the local hospital. Arrived by motorcycle after a long days ride and..... I'd got the date wrong on the booking (24hrs later). I thought that was us scuppered as there was a wedding taking part. However, the receptionist was brilliant, no grumpiness, just smiles and a bit of laughter at my expense :-) Soon was all sorted, an executive room and at the same price that Booking.com had originally charged. The room was a bungalow type build, very large with a veranda and chairs and a beautiful view. Same for the restaurant, we didn't book because we were'nt certain when we would be back from the hospital. When we went in, no problem Sir! and the service was so friendly by all three of the staff who were also looking after a busy dining room with several birthday groups.
Would not hesitate to return!

An excellent location for travellers on the A1 and easy to find. Very helpful staff. The restaurant was very popular with families, but our menu choices was not as well cooked as I would have liked and the breakfast was poorly cooked, but this is a personal view. The whole place looked tired and Greene King need to take more care of its inns, this is the second time we have stayed in one and the hot water boiler has failed and there has been no hot water.

Darrington is a small well to do village near Pontefract. Bus service is minimal. Lots of big houses and well tended lawns. There are two pubs and a small general store. Church and church hall are set back from the road (which is busy) We were having a post breakfast stroll guessing the property prices and a local lady invited us to a coffee morning, which was nice.

The hotel was right next to the A1M but had little if any noise from it. It was ideal to break up the journey further north for a funeral & then the return journey. Bed was very comfortable and large, staff were very welcoming and friendly, having a pub attached gave a great choice for evening meals and breakfast.
The only criticism was the occasional uneven floor in the room

I travelled to spend time with family. The staff are great. Location is good just off the A1. We visited Bridlington Beach for the day, which has a lovely beach and funfair and restaurants. It is about 1 hour and 20 mins from Darrington.

The only good point for our reason for being there was the location.
Every other aspect of the Darrington Hotel was unpleasant, in fact downright disgusting! The place is filthy and the constant TV sport, in every nook and cranny, is unbearable.
The rooms are tiny, the shower was minute and we had one chair between us. No hanging space or drawers.
The food was awful, badly cooked, badly presented, cheap and nasty, though not to buy! The breakfasts were appalling! Little choice, poor quality, like warm water to make tea or coffee, there was nothing good about the breakfasts. The staff? Scruffy! One lad in particular, with filthy jeans, long dirty hair and an arrogant swagger, looked more like a tramp than a waiter!
Many years ago we lived in Darrington and that hotel was our local. It was then a decent, well kept place. Now, it is simply disgusting!
Hotel reception is just left of the pub, so you don't have to walk through the pub. Our room was large, with a full ensuit. Shower over bath, lots of very hot water. The staff were all lovely & friendly. The hotel is located just off the A1 but we didn't hear any traffic. Large free carpark.
Decent breakfast, choices of fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries, cereal, toast and the hearty full English.
The breakfast was good, the room was clean and nicely decorated, I slept well in the bed and the staff were friendly and customer focussed. Having the Hungry Horse restaurant at the premises also mean't I could have a hot tasty meal at a time of my choosing. The hotel was easy to get to as it was close to the A1 ( it was not close enough to be affected by road noise).
Lovely room. Looked like the hotel had been revamped as all decor was fresh throughout. The room had tea facilities, a hairdryer, decent TV and a good shower room. The bed was very comfy. Located within a pub so perfect for a few drinks and food. Good location for travelling up the A1 as a stopover.
The hotel had been refurbished since our last stay and we were pleasantly surprised. Especially pleased that the net curtains have been put back again as we are usually on the ground floor and people in the garden are looking straight in. The lighting is improved as well.
For the price breakfast was ok. But lower quality of food.
Bath in bedroom was small and difficult to get out of.
But over all the hotel was great for a stop over.
