The property was set in a quiet location next to a family home. The owners were extremely accommodating and helpful. The interior of the property was spacious and very beautifully decorated with everything you would need for a short stay. Ideal for a couple. The welcome milk and biscuits were a lovely gesture. A great base and a lovely property.

Location and the friendliness of Diana was lovely.
Breakfast was disappointing - we were offered an egg but otherwise it was cereal - choice of weetabix or Frosties ! So so toast but nice marmalade and jam. Cafetière coffee weak.

Stopped a couple of days in Devizes on our way to Wales.
Stopped a couple of days in Devizes on our way to Wales. Great market town with lots of food and water holes. The White Bear is a buzzing little pub, with friendly customers and attentive hosts. Will return again, when hopefully the weather is nicer to us!

Lovely Georgian town with many original buildings.
Lovely Georgian town with many original buildings. The Caen Locks of historic interest and good to walk alongside. A good cafe at the top of the locks.
We ate at an Indian Restaurant opposite the Castle Hotel; excellent food.

I like Wadworth beer and as the brewery is here there was plenty of opportunity to go beer drinking. All the pubs we tried were interesting and friendly and the beer was well kept in all of them.
We had a good walk along the canal to see the long flight of locks and there were interesting shops in the town. We liked the tea shop in the Ginnal and the bakery for sourdough bread. Everyone we met was friendly.

Devizes looks a little bit rundown.
Devizes looks a little bit rundown. Beautiful buildings are not restored and kept at their best which is a great pity. One popular eating place had filthy windows with bird excrement on them which reflects a lack of pride and cleanliness of the people who own or rent out these buildings. A lot more money needs to be invested in Devizes if it is to attract people. It would be a shame to let this historic town go to complete ruin. People should take pride in their heritage and at the very least clean their shop front, shop windows and paint the façades.
However, Devizes is better than Crewkerne and Chard.

Devizes is far too reticent about its charms.
Devizes is far too reticent about its charms. It is a lovely small market town in the heart of some glorious countryside. It is packed with history and adjacent to the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal (especially the astonishing engineering feat of the Caen Hill Lock Flight, 30 mins' walk from the town centre). The town has many traditional pubs, and shops are quirky and individual rather than the standard chain stores you can find anywhere. (But don't come for a shopping experience.)
We had a lovely room at the back of the Hotel overlooking the Church. The Bath was wonderful after a long day of cycling. Secure overnight storage for our bikes. After an evening stroll around Devizes we decided to eat at the Hotel and it was the right decision. Very tasty Chicken Kiev and Chicken&Cheese Burger.
A hearty Breakfast the next morning kept us going for the first few hours of our cycle ride.
The Staff were very friendly and chatty.
We would definitely stay here again.
As soon as you enter The Pelican you feel welcome. The landlady is amazing remembered our drinks from our only prior visit a month ago.
We were shown to our room, it was spacious, comfortable and everything worked as it was meant to . We were given excellent recommendations for food. We were warned there was karaoke on that night ( which we didn't hear).
Absolute gem of a find, superbly located. We are already trying to find an excuse to go back to Devizes.
The Little House is in a central location in Devizes. Ideal for a couple or individual and, in our opinion, much nicer than staying in a hotel. It was spotlessly clean and very well appointed - everything had been thought of. A useful welcome pack with all the necessary items for breakfast was provided, along with WiFi, charging points, a smart TV, hairdryer, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and contemporary shower room.
The host is absolutely lovely, so helpful and friendly. The breakfast was phenomenal, you get a choice of breakfast each morning to be made fresh and it was delicious, I already miss the pancakes. The rooms are sweet and have everything you need. The farm is beautiful. It is a 20 minute drive from a number of places you can visit for example Stonehenge and Lacock Abbey. We’ll definitely stay again if we are in the area.
By far the best hotel in Devizes: the staff were unbelievably welcoming, as if I were a family member. Nothing was too much trouble.
Food was excellent - the service exceptional. Despite the bar being very busy on one night due to a local event - the staff still had time to make sure everything was ok, even delivering food to my room as there weren't any tables spare. Will only be staying here in future.
Hosts were lovely. We had a powercut and they were quick to keep us informed about what was going on and it was quickly sorted out. Breakfast was delicious, fresh and filling. Rooms were amazingly clear and the rooms were beautifully designed. We live in Devizes but stayed here on our wedding night. The hotel is in a great place, right in the centre of town by all the pubs, shops and amenities.
The Peppermill Town House Hotel was exceptional. It is very central and easy to find. The owners were on hand upon check-in and most polite, offering an early check-in (because of availability) and parking advice. The room was very quiet and the shower amazing. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and the service was excellent.
The landlady Natalie gave us a very warm welcome on arrival. The room was spotlessly clean and modern, and although central to Devizes it was exceptionally quiet. Long term car parking was available nearby and overall we could not have been happier with our experience at The Pelican.
Location perfect as in middle of Devizes yet quiet and tranquil. Free parking also a bonus. Bedding was high quality, bathroom spotless and recently refurbished. Breakfast, chosen from list the night before, was supplied to room in hamper which we ate in courtyard, lovely.
Loved the setting, felt very tucked away and private with lovely views, yet minutes away from the centre of Devizes. Great location.
Caroline is a wonderful host and she makes a very impressive breakfast.
I'm sure I'll be back at some point.
The location & the history of the hotel , the breakfast was fabulous and although the rooms were slightly shabby chic the bedroom was very comfortable and clean.
Staff as always are helpful and friendly..
Acceptional breakfast everything tasty and nicely cooked. Service good with a smile. Bedroom large and very comfy bed. Large, modern ensuite shower room. Really cant fault the hotel in any way.
Very convenient for our purpose prior to narrow boat trip. Nice view of street and city center. The meal was fantastic, best meal of entire stay in England. Great staff and host, very helpful.
An excellent apartment for 2 people. Comfortable bed, cooking facilities and decor. Very handy for Devizes town centre, the Kennet and Avon canal and other local attractions.
I liked the location and it was in the centre of devizes , found the hotel staff friendly and had a good breakfast, room 20;was compact single room and was quiet at night
