Dumfries is a mecca for all things Rabbie Burns; it boasts the site of his original grave, a Burns museum, the house where he last resided, his local pub and more besides. The people of Dumfries are exceptionally friendly and the town is steeped in history. The River Nith provides a romantic backdrop which is very atmospheric at night. Dumfries is easily accessible by road and rail and easy to get around. There are some very characterful places to visit and with more visitors, the variety of places to eat and drink will surely increase.

A town that is down on its luck but a lot going on to improve it at the moment. And it's a stronghold of Robert Burns history as well as being handy for some excellent countryside, coast, hills, etc. Great mountain-biking trails. A couple of really good places to eat (check out something fine at the Globe Inn).

The area is convenient to a beautiful castle ruin and nice birdwatching reserves on the River Nith. There were some restaurants in the town, but we had delicious dinner at the Friars Carse which is also open to non- hotel guests for dinner.

Dumfries is useful as the nearest big town, but we spent all of our time in the smaller towns and countryside: KIrkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet are both compact with good cafes and restaurants, and adequate shopping. It's a beautiful rural area with rolling hills and woods, many lovely bays and a dramatic coastline, with views over to the Lake District and to the Isle of Man in good weather. Perfect for a gently energetic holiday - walking or exploring the shoreline.

Interesting historic town.
Interesting historic town.
Well sign posted for getting around and also in and out of the town by car.
Nice area down by the river.
Would recommend the Cavens Arms for a meal - very good, and the pub has won various awards,.
Second time i've stayed and again the people who run Hamilton House were wonderful The room I had with the double bed was clean, very comfortable and I had plenty of space and was worth every penny. The breakfast was delicious and the dining facilities were warm and welcoming. Hamilton House is close to the train station and not far from the town center so it's ideal for anyone whos' never visited/stayed in Dumfries before. I am really looking forward to going back again soon.
Arrived after having been at work earlier that day, followed by longish train journey from Manchester, so great to get off the train at Dumfries, cross a road and arrive at hotel in less than a minute. Easy to check in and out. Room in good location within hotel. Comfortable room, provision of tea/coffee, plenty of sockets to charge phone. Good quality shower and bathroom.
The property was very comfy, cozy and inviting. It was well maintained and had everything we needed. The village was beautiful and although you were close to the road. There was no noise or disturbance. It was the perfect location for us visiting family who live in Dumfries Town Centre. We had easily access to the coast and family in Lockerbie.
Terrific value for money. Full studio apartment (living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom with TV and central heating. Tea, coffee, milk, butter, bread and eggs provided for breakfast. Clean and well presented. Nice location near town centre and river. Would definitely return if visiting Dumfries again.
The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. The grounds were nice and well kept The staff were all very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed chatting to the staff.
The food was very reasonably priced and of a good quality and standard. If we were to go to Dumfries again we would use this hotel.
The Hotel was in a quiet position on the outskirts of Dumfries. There was plenty of on-site parking. Breakfast selection was very good and cooked breakfasts were speedily delivered. All of the staff, especially Emma at breakfast, were very attentive, friendly and courteous.
Absolutely loved this location and property. The proprietors Jim and Jackie were delightful and hospitable. Walking distance to all Dumfries has to offer! This is a can’t miss if
your travels take you to this little corner of Scotland.
I was very impressed with this Hotel, was really good for a one night stopover, very clean, spotless! Good bed, a good rest there and breakfast was spot on. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel - keep up the good work!
Central location with spacious room with a nice view. I was in the area visiting friend at Dumfries Hospital and then dealing with organising a funeral and the Hotel met my specific request for a quiet room.
Everything was perfect. I travel for work all over Scotland, and this is easily one of the best I have stayed at. I do not often leave reviews but this place and it's owners are top drawer
Staff most welcoming and felt we were important to them. Evening meal and breakfast as good and better then many other hotels I have stayed at. Room, clean, warm and bed was superb.
