Moorings Hotel, hotel in Fort William

Moorings Hotel lies alongside the banks of the Caledonian Canal at the famous Neptune's Staircase.

This was a pleasant stay at a comfortable hotel. The location was exceptional - immediately by Neptune's Staircase and with beautiful views of Ben Nevis from both our room and the dining room with a steam train just 200 yards away; this is a "go to" location. Our room was generously proportioned and well equipped (although the slightly dated furniture and worn carpet gave the ambience of somewhat faded grandeur) - and the en suite had clearly recently been refurbished to a high standard. Cleanliness was exemplary and all staff were friendly and helpful. The dining room had a very pleasant ambiance and breakfast was comprehensive.

The Garrison, hotel in Fort William

Set in Fort William and within 1.9 km of Glen Nevis, The Garrison features a bar, allergy-free rooms, and free WiFi throughout the property.

A Highland Haven: The Garrison Suite Experience As someone who delights in the charm of Scottish Highlands, my recent birthday treat at The Garrison in Fort William transcended expectations. Upon sharing my excitement for this special journey, I was so touched by a very generous and considerate gesture from the hotel staff—a complimentary upgrade to a suite, curated thoughtfully by Yvonne. The suite was amazing, and I was so delighted to have been upgraded! Accommodation Excellence: The suite at The Garrison exuded a level of cleanliness and attention to detail that could rival any five-star establishment. Its immaculate wood flooring and tastefully chosen decor created a warm, inviting atmosphere. The suite included a separate living area, featuring a coffee maker complete with complimentary capsules—a delightful way to start the morning. The dining area, complete with full sets of plates and cutlery, was adjacent to a versatile flat-screen TV with smart capabilities, perfect for Netflix watching both from the dining table during breakfast, dinner, and then swing it towards the very cozy couch (perfect for movie nights after a day of hiking). Thoughtful Touches: Upon arrival, I discovered thoughtful amenities like complimentary lemonade, and chocolate tea cakes in the fridge, and crisps. The bathroom was not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical, with sensor-activated soft lighting—ideal for nighttime visits without the harshness of bright lights. Comfort and Convenience: The suite’s bed promised restful nights with its sheer comfort and size. Practicalities were also considered, with ample storage solutions including a discrete space for luggage and multiple hangers for clothing. I absolutely loved my stay, and will be sure to return again! I loved the ambience of the suite, I felt very at peace.

Lime Tree Hotel, hotel in Fort William

Situated in picturesque Fort William, The Lime Tree An Ealdhain offers spacious accommodation in the Highlands of Scotland. It has its own art gallery, and an award-winning contemporary restaurant.

We stayed in the apartment at the side of hotel with lovely view of the water from the master bedroom , with floor to ceiling window - spacious living area and kitchen, good twin room for the kids, lots and lots of space for dogs and chilling out after long walks during the day - just one bathroom/toilet, but no problem for us. lovely to have a bath option ater hiking up Ben Nevis. would definitely stay there again, a great way to end our trip to the west highlands. only very minor flaw was that the terrace was under repair and most windows where out of reach to open so on a warm day this would maybe have been an issue, but it was April so not a problem for us

FAQs about hotels in Fort William

In the Shadow of Ben Nevis

Fort William is shadowed by Great Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, and lies on the shores of pretty Loch Linnhe. The Scottish Highland’s 2nd biggest city attracts hordes of hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, enhancing its self-proclaimed reputation as the ‘outdoor capital of Scotland’.

In the city centre, on High Street, is the West Highland Museum that explains local Highland history. The West Highland Way is a famous, long-distance walking route that begins and ends just outside Fort William.

The Nevis Range ski centre and Nevis Range gondola provides a stunning view of the Great Glen. A downhill mountain-biking track also begins here. This breath-taking track has hosted numerous world cups as well as the 2007 World Championships. Stop along the way to try the local whiskey at Ben Nevis Distillery.

Named after William of Orange, Fort William has been home to the Clan Cameron for many generations. Booking.com invites you to soak up the outdoor highlights and history of this charming city and surrounding countryside with its extensive range of hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses.

Fort William as a town needs investment, depending on why you are there I suppose would change your opinion. Ben nevis 10 mins away, beautiful loch on doorstep fishing , climbing walking, down hill cycling, ski ing, diving all plus points. Night time especially week night useless. Morar and Mallaig to the North beautiful and in summer amazing beach at Morar. If you are there for hobby or sport great base camp, if you are a tourist and like entertainment at night during the week go somewhere else.

Fort William was as nice as usual however please note...

Fort William was as nice as usual however please note certain businesses are only open during tourist season. We also enjoyed filling up on the gondolas at Nevis Range. I must say though, try and avoid Caledonia hotel. The toilet was like what you get in a nursery and my private parts in the water. Carpet threadbare, wallpaper coming off the walls due to dampness, a very uncomfortable bed, adjoining door that we were not made aware of. Electricity was off on arrival and due to my dust allergies and at 3pm the room had not been cleaned, we left and checked in later. There was still dirt in the room and at the top of the bed, I caughed thru the night both nights. When it rained you could hear a loud drip from within the wall cavity. I'm not a confrontational person and didn't feel comfortable bringing the issues up with reception, so just be warned. The lift was out of order too. Beware room 220!!! Such shame being a brilliant location .

Fort William is a nice little town very well located.

Fort William is a nice little town very well located. It's ten minutes away from Ben Nevis and 45mn from Glencoe ski resort. Before that, you have all the Glencoe mountains to explore. There are still a lot to do during winter, even if snow sports are not an option due to lack of snow and/or high winds. You have the West Highland Museum, a brand new movie theatre, the Ben Nevis distillery, an indoor climbing centre, etc.

Fort William is beautiful and has lots of areas to check out within a short drive. A great place to stay and visit the Harry Potter sites (by car) plus the views are spectacular. We also enjoyed plenty of the bars and cafes and enjoyed a night at the local cinema too.

I was in Fort William for a special event but I have been many times before. It is easy to get around. There are lots of dog walking trails nearby. I like to go to Spean Bridge Woollen Mill. There is a nature reserve at nearby Glen Roy. We used it as a stop over travel to Mull. It is not far from Nevis Range Mountain Gondolas. There is plenty shopping within Fort William including retail parks.

The apartment location is fantastic, it is possible to walk to Fort William city center and there is a bus stop nearby too. The kitchen has everything you need (cutlery, pans, glasses, etc) and the washing machine was very handy as we were on a long trip. We really felt at home during our stay. Would definetly recommend and stay here again. Unfortunately we did not get to meet the property managers as the check in and check out are handled by email but they seem to be the nicest people from the messages we have exchanged.

The Hotel was lovely and has been renovated since our last visit, very nice with great facilities, room also had great facilities, lots of nice little touches like bottled water, tea, coffee & biscuits, view over the water was stunning. Very clean and the staff were amazingly friendly and very nice, we enjoyed our stay. 5 minutes walk from the centre of Fort William with free parking, and our breakfast was lovely, would definitely go back, but if I was staying longer they would need to improve the heating in the room.

This gem of a hotel is located in the heart of Fort William's main street so shops and restaurants are literally right out the front door. The transportation hub is a short walk away, and there is a public parking lot close by. If you drive there, wait to take in your luggage until after you check in as they will show you how to access a lift in the back of the building. The staff is extremely helpful and gave great suggestions for nearby excursions and a lovely nature walk in town.

From check-in, the owner notified us that the place was ready early. Upon arrival, check-in was easy, the place was clean, very well stocked, and even old-school short-term rental, a welcome basket complete with proseco. The location is ideal, quiet street easy walk to town. Beds were comfortable, and there was even a working fire placewhich was great after a day of hiking in in and out rain. Would return again if I ever return to Fort Williams. Thanks, Rose, for a great stay!
