The Imperial Hotel, hotel in Instow

The 4-star Imperial Hotel is located in the centre of Barnstaple, overlooking the River Taw.

Room was nice and clean. We had twin beds as we are family travelling together however there was no distance between the beds which made it a bit uncomfortable sleeping so close together.

Sun shone in September which helped. Dog friendly beach which we loved, others may not. Ice cream van on beach. Super cafe/shop and restaurants just off the beach. Handy for Bideford & Appledore both worth a visit.

Lovely village close to the sea and right in the heart of North Devon. It has an amazing deli and some excellent pubs and seafood restaurants. They also run a ferry across the river to the lovely village of Appledore

    Instow is exceptionally dog friendly.

Instow is exceptionally dog friendly. We have German Shepherds and as anyone who owns them realises how much breed prejudice there is against them - not in Instow! They were accepted wholeheartedy. It was wonderful and refreshing

Beach full of dog walkers every day so it spoilt our stay because we could not walk bare foot or paddle as dog weeing everywhere, so we had to drive to find a beach to use. Had we known we would not have booked this hotel. Good food in local pubs and nice people. Instow Arms and The Boathouse.

Lovely, dog-friendly beach with several nice pubs and restaurants plus a great deli. The sunsets over the estuary are truly glorious, especially whilst enjoying a wonderful meal on the roof terrace of The Boathouse restaurant.
