The lady receptionist who also ran the bar was very welcoming. There is nothing to fault. Residents were able to eat takeaways in the bar. I didn’t but that was nice. The whole place looked freshly decorated.

The Islay Hotel is a great location for shops, eating out, distilleries and beaches. We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Our room was spotlessly clean and well organized. The breakfast was a very good start to our day. In addition to the hotel, we recommend the café at Ardbeg distillery for lunches and teas. On the road to Bowmore (on the right-hand side) is the Balaclava Byre Farm Shop and Restaurant, which also provides delicious food, using local produce from Islay.
Lochside hotel is situated in Bowmore and features a terrace. Featuring luggage storage space, this property also provides guests with a restaurant. Free WiFi is available.

We spent to little time on Islay this trip. So next rime we will book directly with the staff as she was brilliant fixing up a Bookings.com mistake. The view from the upstairs bedrooms, of their tiny harbour and surrounding tidal flats is peaceful.

Very traditional sort of cottage, with extensions for the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms. It certainly is a quirky layout, but also quite quaint. Bottom line is that it works and suited us three blokes on our whisky excursion.
The kitchen is well appointed and clean and includes a washing machine, etc.
It is a short/medium walk into Port Ellen; probably about 20 minutes, past the re-opened Port Ellen Distillery and Rum distillery.

Great place.. just two doors down from the bar.. and 6 or 8 doors from the restaurant.
Port Ellen is very small. Don't expect to much from it.. but great for discovering the Whisky distilleries.
And off course the great Scottish breakfast with haggish!!
