We love the facilities and everything are well organized. The location is not that fae from Kirkwall’s center. We can reach almost everywhere by walking distance. The bus stop is even nearby with supermarkets. I’d highly recommend for a group of friends, regardless of gender. I traveled with a group of female.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Everything you’d need …. Only 1 minor whinge would be the doors banged loudly when folk were visiting the loo during the night 🤭 it would be perfect if a mechanism could be fitted to silence them 🤞🏾

Waterfront House, hotel in Kirkwall

Boasting a private beach area and views of sea, Waterfront House is a guest house set in a historic building in Finstown, 5.7 km from Maeshowe.

The view from the room was incredible. It felt like we were on the water. We sat for hours witching the birds on the shore. Just as we were leaving three Curlew flew right past the window - almost a leaving present.

A visit to Kirkwall Church is beautiful & full of history the place is so calming when you enter those huge church doors. This is my 2nd visit Orkney loved it. They have quaint streets dating back to 1200's or more but with the Lidl, Tesco + Co-op supermarkets you can get all you need at these stores. We went to excellent restaurant The Ayre Hotel for fish & chips + seafood platter it was excellent + staff were excellent very friendly we are from Catering too it was great good !! We decided to fly this time it was fantastic there in an hour Loganair excellent staff Kirkwall Airport is so cute excellent facilities for travellers lovely cafe & toilets + the staff were excellent special mention to Heather in the Cafe very friendly the scenery taking off from this cute airport was amazing beautiful scenery no wonder Lorraine Kelly loves Orkney too we do too 😀😁😊☺

A place combining plenty of history of different periods (we went on a fantastic trike trip (https://orkneytriketours.co.uk/) - great experience, visiting the Italian Chapel, standing stones and Scara Brae. The town itself has a 12-century cathedral, historical ruins, and museums, including the wireless communications museum, which was created and is being run by enthusiasts. There are also different daily art groups at Gallery 25 (https://www.facebook.com/Number25Kirkwall/?locale=en_GB) which we enjoyed joining. And the local English is very melodic - it is a pleasure listening to it! I can't say we discovered the fantastic seafood, but there is a lovely shop, The Brig Larder (https://www.jollysoforkney.co.uk/pages/the-brig-larder, one can also order local delicacies to be delivered) - again with lovely staff and a good selection of locally sourced dairy, cheese, seafood and preserves.

Kirkwall is a beautiful little city.

Kirkwall is a beautiful little city. I came for the incredible Neolithic history and to search for family ties in the area. There are many jewelry shops as well as artists studios and tweed or wool shops. The museum is also fantastic. It’s a fibre artist’s dream.

I would not stay at this hotel again out of choice .

I would not stay at this hotel again out of choice . We visited a restaurant out of town for a meal and it was superb. I then read the reviews for this restaurant with rooms which was in a beautiful location with lovely views and they were excellent also far cheaper. The restaurant was the Foveran and I would thoroughly recommend it. Also visited the Italian chapel and the site of the discovery of a 3000 year old settlement both of which are a must to see. I played golf at the Kirkwall golf club very friendly and welcoming although totally self booked with honesty box available .

The Shore has been bought over by The Kirkwall Hotel and we were upgraded in to one of their newly refurbished rooms. The room was lovely with a great shower and comfortable bed. The restaurant is a really pleasant place to dine, but they really need a vegan menu, the choices are very limited. The vegan breakfast options could be improved too. The staff are really great, the young man on the front desk couldn’t have been more helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would book again.

The hotel is atmospheric and very centrally located while being on the seaside. It is a short walk to ferries and buses and also to the cathedral and museums in Kirkwall. We loved the more spacious room 102 (although being just over a bar is not the best location for a Friday night - unless you are in the bar at that time as well :) This was a navy headquarters building so plenty of objects reminding of the past. The reception and restaurant staff are lovely and also very helpful.

From arrival we were met with a friendly lady on reception, unfortunately I can't remember her name but she was very helpful, professional and made us feel welcome. The hotel in general was clean, tidy and had a homely feel. Myself and my partner had a great sleep, comfortable bed and a warm and clean room. We were just a few minutes walk away from everything that we needed. We didn't use the other facilities in the hotel but we definitely will if we return again in the future.

The location to town is really convenient, just a quick walk in to Kirkwall. Very nice to have a dedicated parking area too. The new owner/manager Andy was so very helpful and friendly, easy check in. All of the breakfast staff were super friendly and efficient, breakfasts were really nice as was being able to make your choices the night before. Room was very clean and well stocked, the entire hotel smells clean whenever you enter.

The location of the hotel was perfect. We were close to the main street and could walk easily to St. Magnus Church, the Bishop's Castle and many nice restaurants. The WEGH also served a hearty, delicious breakfast. Our room was cozy, the bed was very comfortable and the staff were so friendly. They even have a car park. And they let us leave our bags there after check-out so we could enjoy Kirkwall more before our departure.

The room was comfortable. And the kitchen and dining rooms were superb! suitable for cooking and enjoying an extended stay. Even though the bathroom facilities were quite old everything worked just fine. I am looking forward to your upgrade if I have a chance to visit Kirkwall again in the future. And the most important thing is the staff who were very nice, friendly, and helpful.

The apartment is within easy walking distance of everything you need in Kirkwall, from the supermarkets to the Earl's Palace to the restaurants and the ferry to the northern isles. The kitchen is very well equipped and it's a good hob, and tea, coffee, and milk is provided. Communication with David was excellent beforehand, too.
