Kings Arms Hotel - A Bespoke Hotel, hotel in Letterfearn

Close to the Skye Bridge in Kyleakin village, the Kings Arms dates back to the 1600s and has panoramic views across Kyle of Lochalsh to the mainland.

Very little went well. Service in the bar was pretty good, but marred by having no facility to charge anything to our room. (This, despite being issued with a guest card specifically for charging items to the room).

Kevin and Trudy are excellent hosts.

Kevin and Trudy are excellent hosts. The accommodation was very clean and well appointed. Dinner was excellent. The views are magnificent. Taxis were difficult to find but Trudy and Kevin have no control over that. The shower could be better but it did the job. I would be happy to return to Toads Croak.

Great location. Great accommodation. Great hosts.

Great location. Great accommodation. Great hosts. Used to explore Skye and it didn't disappoint. Very secluded and slow traffic on single track roads so don't go if you like to rush around. Swam in the Loch and spotted otters at dusk.

    Owners were down-to-earth and friendly.

Owners were down-to-earth and friendly. Trudy and Kevin are avid gardeners, as evidenced by the massive plantings at the rear of the home and numerous pots in front to greet guests. Breakfast room overlooks the rear gardens, giving guests full view of the beautiful flowers currently in bloom. Letterfearn itself consists of a few homes on a single-track road running alongside the loch. It's very windy and twisty, so don't expect to zip along to the Frogs Croak. As this road is slow-going, the 10-mile drive further along to the ferry is not recommended. It took 45 minutes to get there; it was considerably faster to drive to Portree via Lochalsh. If you are a walker, you will enjoy the area, as there are loads of trails that weren't terribly challenging, making it simple for the very fit and nice for those who aren't. Just remember: you're only an hour away from the Cuillen Mountains where there are challenging hikes for the fitter visitors. Drive farther beyond Portree to view the Old Man of Storr. This rock formation is interesting, as is the Kilt Rock a few miles farther along. Getting to these locations will be through Sligachan, where an old arch bridge and surrounding river make for a very photogenic setting. Be sure to stop at the local hotel for good food, drink, and music.

It's a beautiful location, very tranquil and there's a good walk straight from the door up to the broch beyond Totaig. Or you can drive to Glen Elg and walk around there. It's great for wildlife; I saw an otter and a heron but there are also porpoises in the loch.
