Angela was really lovely, the room was warm and comfortable. The view was beautiful with sightings of a lovely fox and a rabbit family. Breakfast was excellent, and a cheeky peacock was peeking in the window. We had a lovely stay and hopefully will return. Thank you

Friendly hosts, lovely big room with private enclosed patio area with attractive planting and garden furniture. The patio was perfect for our dogs. The room had a fridge. We had an evening meal (which has to be ordered in advance as the pub/restaurant is closed except for guests) which was properly cooked and homemade. Walking the dogs up the lane at night we could see the milky way. Peaceful but only a short drive from Tavistock. Excellent breakfast menu and made fresh to order.

Lydford is a small village just off the A386 to the west of Dartmoor and south of Okehampton. Probably most famous for the Lydford gorge but the village itself has other attraction including Lydford Castle which is actually an old courthouse and prison and mounds from the Saxon town. There is also an ancient spring and numerous footpaths. It has a traditional village pub and there is a nearby farm shop. From the village it's possible to see and easily reach the moor with its Tors and ancient settlements, stone rows etc:

Lydford Gorge is a wonderful walk,(National Trust) challenging for some, in parts, with narrow slippery paths, hand rails provided where necessary. Not difficult, but care must be taken at all times when near the river.
The Castle Inn very good food and service.

Lydford and the surrounding areas have much to offer those who have never been before and those like myself who have either been before or worked in the area. Churchyards with interesting churchyards, monuments, Lydford Gorge. The space of Dartmoor for peaceful thoughts. Life is far too busy these days, lose yourself within this part of the country. You will return home feeling refreshed from visiting here...and have the need of a return.

The place was beautiful, and well worth going. The waterfall itself is huge and the walk around the trust is easy going and relaxing. Well worth going to the bird hide if you've got the time too :)

A epic quest through the gorge.
A epic quest through the gorge. Just enough adventure - well cared for paths, obvious routes, a map, but also challenging terrain, interesting nooks to explore and incredible scenery. Speak to the folks at the desk as they will give you tips. The devil's cauldron was shut due to off season renovation, so next time we go I'd like to see that - will definitely be back!
We had a lovely stay at the Dartmoor Inn . The room was lovely with a spacious en-suite , very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent , with a good choice , quality products and truly set you up for the day . We stayed 3 nights and the inn is well located to explore the surrounding area., Lydford Gorge just a short drive away as well as a further couple of other National Trust properties . The Inn’s restaurant opened from Wednesday for dinner and a nice selection on the menu , the dinner was delicious.
The location in the centre of Lydford was great. Parking was directly opposite the property and access to the moors is simple. The property is self contained with a wood burning stove and this was already laid on arrival and ready to light. From the windows the moors are visible. If the weather had been better we had garden we could use. Lydford itself is a beautiful village with a lot of history and the wonderful Lydford Gorge is nearby within walking distance.
This was a beautiful hotel. The decor throughout was just lovely and it felt welcoming. For breakfast there was a good choice of food available and it tasted wonderful. The service was brilliant and the young lady who served us was so polite and helpful. We had a meal at one of the local pubs - The Castle - and the food there was delicious and again very good service by all the staff we had dealings with.
We enjoyed the peaceful and beautiful setting of the Linhay and its proximity to walks on the moors and the Lydford Gorge. It is also well-placed for visits to may locations further afield. The accommodation is comfortable and feels like a home. The welcome treats were very much appreciated. We wouldn't hesitate to return.
Amazing location for Lydford Gorge and Dartmoor. Very clean and well presented. Thoughtful decor and environmental considerations. Amazing breakfast with their own honey comb. Couldn’t be more helpful when asked. Amazing flowers throughout the property, Jodie is a skilled florist.
Great location in a pretty village, surrounded by walks for all abilities. Perfect base for exploring the area, seaside, moorlands, woods and forests, granite way. Townend Barn is a home from home with lovely hosts just on the doorstep for help and advice. Perfect stay in Lydford.
Location was perfect for an overnight stay prior to Cornwall.
Special arrangements were made for an early morning arrival (1AM), for which the hotel were more than happy to do.
Breakfast was good & the room were big & clean. Plenty of room for the kids to explore!
Lovely hotel with gorgeous garden. Staff very welcoming & friendly. Rooms very nice and comfortable but a little small but it is an old Inn so is to be expected. Would definitely stay again.
An inn full of character, close to Lydford Gorge. Stayed in annexe cottage. The room was warm, with a nice bathroom, and faultlessly clean. Excellent food.
Stayed for 2 nights in October.
The lovely breakfast and the serene location. Room was very comfortable. Hosts were very accommodating and friendly. Lydford Gorge and the western tors of Dartmoor are very close.
Great location for Lydford and The Granite Way cycle path. Great host and a lovely breakfast. Big room, niice bathroom and a great view of the moor. Thanks Angela.
