No.31 Castle Gate, hotel in Newark upon Trent

Offering free WiFi, No.31 Castle Gate is situated in Newark upon Trent, 27 km from Lincoln University and 31 km from Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.

Accommodation - great location opposite the Castle and walkable into town, fab cafe next door however there was a mix up with the rooms, bunk beds unmade and you could feel the springs in the top bunk mattress. Advertised as family room (sleeps four) but only a two seater sofa and no where else to sit. All a little grubby and could do with a deep clean. Contact Daniel was polite and helpful.

The Secret Garden, hotel in Newark upon Trent

Offering a garden and garden view, The Secret Garden is situated in Newark upon Trent, 27 km from Lincoln University and 31 km from Trent Bridge Cricket Ground.

The location was city centre, so perfect. It is appropriately named as the entrance is tucked away. Rob, the host, was friendly and answered messages promptly. He showed us around the property and then left. The property has many different levels which made it quirky and different to our normal choices, although we were not aware of just how many levels and steps there were both inside and outside of the property. The creaks and groans of the property during the night were also unexpected but not surprising due to the age of the building. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and if we were to return to Newark, it would be on our list to contact.

Newark can easily be covered in a weekend.

Newark can easily be covered in a weekend. The National Civil War centre is worth a quick visit as part of the town Civil War Trail. A good range of pubs, bars and eateries and quite a few independent shops and boutiques. Elements of the town are sadly in decline but, with the river, it's still picturesque enough to explore and wander.

It was just a break of journey for us, but there are many dining options a short drive away. We were also told as we left that if we fancied a take away of some sort, we could arrange delivery and Shaan and Sef would set up a table for us to eat it there in comfort. We may well try that next time we stop.

when we arrived we were not very impressed , but after parking and having a nice breakfast we found the town square , then every thing opened up . It was a nice surprise to see what was the market place surrounded by shops . we also had a lovely evening meal in the Ram pub , the food was very good and the service could not have been better. We found that Newark had a lot of history and shall be going back to see more . Would recomend.

    Wonderful town to explore.

Wonderful town to explore. Great places to eat and drink and historic places to visit. Plenty of places to stay over and highly recommend the Newark guest house which although just outside of Newark it is only a ten minute taxi drive away. It is a beautiful place to stay.

We arrive in the afternoon so we needed to eat out but we found it very difficult to find somewhere to eat , everything was closed , especially on a Monday and Tuesday . We ended up eating in the Old post office which was just like a weather spoons, not nice,to the fact I Was up being sick through the night . Only grip .

Gail was the one who received me. She listened and helped me out with everything. She went to the extent of finding and booking cabs for me for every day i stayed successfully. Also, when i had to extend my stay she made sure to sort it out for me even though it was a fully booked hotel the next day. i cant thank enough all the staff for their amazing welcoming. the food was very good.

Was great to sit on the top deck in the morning with a cuppa in the sun and relax with my wife. Close to town centre but so quiet you wouldn't know it you could be miles away from anywhere it was a clear night so was great to sit with a glass of wine and star gaze. Better then a usual hotel or guest house which would have cost more without the privacy and experience.

Fabulous location and was perfect for what we needed. The children enjoyed climbing the ladder up to bed. The children were allowed to feed the chickens and keep and egg! Lovely and peaceful place. Much better than staying in a big standard hotel room. Lovely hosts. Made us feel very welcome and we're very helpful.

I have travelled with my young daughter to various hotels in the Grantham/Newark area. We were both made to feel very welcome during our stay. These guys have a house full of beautiful antiques and a garden that anyone would envy! The breakfast was also tremendous. Keep up the good work, we'll be back again!

Lime House is in the perfect place to get to the train and bus stations and into town. Andy, the host, couldn't be more friendly and helpful, and his tips for places to see were great. The extra space and privacy of having a house rather than a hotel room was great for the day I had to work from there, too.

Excellent hosts, very attentive to our needs. Quality breakfast with a wide choice. Lovely property with homely feel unlike the "beigeness" of the chain hotels. When we next visit the area we know EXACTLY where we will be staying. Lots of "little" touches to make things perfect.
