FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Centre, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Centre, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sport, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognised (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodation all over this happening city.

Enjoyed first ever visit. Riverside lovely helped by sunny weather. City easy walk but uphill ! Lots of eating/drinking venues. Staff very welcoming. Popular obviously with young people. We enjoyed the Grainger market. Had dinner at Malmaison a short walk from our hotel. Staff everywhere helpful.

Newcastle is a fabulous city with lots to do in the city...

Newcastle is a fabulous city with lots to do in the city itself - unbeatable shopping and a plethora of bars, restaurants etc ( with great cocktails!) , but also plenty of culture with top class galleries, museums and music venues. The Tyne is central to the long history of the city. But with a good public transport system, it is also easy to get to the coast should the weather be kind.

New castle is under a lot of construction projects right now...

New castle is under a lot of construction projects right now especially the city centre Every one is very friendly It's lost none of its industrial feel Great china town and a good selection of international resteraunts. There are a lot of resteraunts that try and charge London prices which is very anti northern It's character is being eroded by corporates I do like Newcastle it's got a good waterfront and hotels are not bad but property is becoming expensive

Loved the people they were the friendliest I have ever met.

Loved the people they were the friendliest I have ever met. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Loved the waterfront to walk along and the City Centre is very compact with lots of restaurants and bars. We had amazing food especially at Aneesa's Buffet Indian. Best Indian food I have ever had. Would definately recommend a visit to the Castle as it has so much interesting information and things to see. We were there for 2 hours. Lucky most of what we wanted to see was only 10 minutes walk from our hotel. This was lucky as we usually use the Hop on Hop off buses in City's to get around and visit places of interest but disappointingly in Newcastle they don't operate until the end of May 😞. On the plus side it means I need to visit again to see the things we couldn't get to see 😀

Taking the bus or metro is quite easy and convenient, or you can walk. The locals are very kind and helpful. As I am from the U.S., I was frequently asking folks questions about where things were in Newcastle. I saw Jonathan Pie at the 02 City Hall. Great venue and show!

Brilliant hotel, perfect location for the city centre. Our room on the first floor was very clean and a great size. Very polite and welcoming staff, breakfast service great. The pool/steam room were great The parking (although paid) was convenient being so nearby the hotel, just be careful if Newcastle are playing home as the car park was full on Saturday near 1500 kick off - we managed to get lucky though. Plenty spaces otherwise.

When I arrived there were three people in reception and all eager to help me. There are five floors to the hotel and a very fast lift is available. I did not have the hotel breakfast, although my friend did and he thought that the buffet breakfast was very good and not expensive. I was also impressed with the bedroom and the comfortable bed. There was a safe underneath the bed !
