Newton Stewart, or the low land forests, does not show up in what to do in Scotland. This is a hidden gem. Nice town with lots to do in and around. Historic Museum is excellent if you like that stuff (I do). Nearby park and hills offers great hiking and biking opportunities, we went on two 3-5 KM hikes. Kennedy castle gardens was an unexpected treat and opportunity to get more exercise. This was a nice two day stop between the Irish Ferry and Glasgow.

We were told that Newton-Stewart was a charming village, even though it is very out of the way. We were looking for nearby accommodation from the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse. Turns out that the lighthouse was the only good thing on offer. We hired a night sky ranger to visit the dark sky park in Galloway, which was very cool. However, the village seemed shabby and most things were closed for dinner on a Sunday after 6.

Lovely town, friendly, nice river walk and forest walks. Nice eateries and coffee shops, 2 super markets. Outside Newton Stewart nice also, visited Wigton and Isle of whithorn. Both lovely (good weather helped) Cree not got much but gem museum is v nice (good cafe too which you can use even if not going to museum) and wee folk museum is good, informative. Maybe a good destination for filling a rainy morning.

It was the perfect place to come and unwind, surrounded by nature. We spent most of our time sitting in the outdoor 'living room' watching the weather change across the valley and Lulu contentedly grazing in her field or sitting round the fire pit, watching a thunderstorm! The bathhroom is just awesome!

Great location to Newton Stewart with all the necessary facilities, and too several of the Forest Parks. Kitchen was well equipped. Cottage was very comfortable overall, especially after walking many of the trails during the day. Must visits are Loch Trool and The Southern Upland Way. Lodge is located in very quiet grounds of the Castle. Lovely to walk out at night with Bats flying around the buildings and even had the pleasure of watching an owl in the trees opposite. If you like the outdoors this Lodge and area is where to stay.

The couple that own it were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They took the time to speak to you about various places to go in Newton Stewart and surrounding area. The room was comfortable with a great ensuite bathroom. The choice of breakfast was great and cooked fresh. They were very good under current circumstances in dealing with covid restrictions. During lockdown they had redecorated and the place was clean and fresh. When in the area again would definitely stay there and would recommend it to others.

Fantastic Room - Huge!. (room 16 - would request this room in future lol) Lovely clean bathroom. Great welcome. All staff were friendly. chatty without being intrusive and went out of their way to help/assist. Just watching them interact with other customers - nothing was too much trouble. Food was fantastic - great choice. Great cocktail selection and staff happy to make some that were not on menu. Stayed in Newton Stewart many times yet never been in the Crown before - will certainly be back

Excellent stay in a clean, comfortable, cosy caravan. Excellent value and never seen such a clean caravan before with the heating throughout made it a great stay. Was off season when we visited, but we knew that before our stay. We've used the facilities at 3 lochs before which has plenty to do for all ages. In the description it mentions a swimming pool in Stranraer, however, there's one closer in Newton Stewart which can be used at the Douglas Ewart High School during weekends and school holidays.

Breakfast and dinner were fine. The bedroom was aweful . single glazing. Bathroom like a fridge. we had to walk up flights of stairs and through a recreation room to get to our room no lifts! decor shabby in bedroom it is an old hotel. dining room clean and modernised.Staff friendly and helpful. We did note a for sale notice on outside of the property and were told the owner was absentee landlord.

Our room was beautifully decorated and looked out onto the river. The bed was very comfortable and the room was warm. Breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and very good. We arrived quite late in the evening but Nicole didn't mind and made us feel welcome. We had a good evening meal at The Ship Inn nearby. Newton Stewart is in an excellent position to travel and sightsee around Galloway.

The bed was large and comfortable and the views were picturesque. All in all a great place to stay and I would be happy to recommend it to anyone visiting Newton Stewart.

Location was lovely, lodge was clean and cosy, hot tub was definately hot!! Far enough away from the other lodges to have some privacy, not noisy. The town of Newton Stewart is within walking distance, so it was nice not to have to use the car every day.
