Amazing views and property. Could not want more! Host Elizabeth was super helpful and arranged for my phone to be sent back to me when I accidentally left it in the cottage.

It's obviously a work in progress and it's great that someone is investing in the property. May 2024

We wanted to explore some of the beaches in North Scotland, Portskerra is pretty central and has a cracker of a beach on the doorstep. The area is a really good base for getting around the North, we headed out to John O'Groats for walks and have a boat trip as well as trying some of the local beer! Also headed in the opposite direction out to Tongue, got out for a great walk in the rain along another fantastic bit of beach.
Portskerra itself is a small village at best, has a post office/shop, The Melvich Hotel with bar and restaurant and a little sandwich shop. Used all three facilities while I was there and everyone was really friendly. Nice walk around the loop of the village, was good to get the dog out to stretch his legs.
Golf courses, castles and day trips to Orkney all on your doorstep. Great place to base yourself.

We were doing our own version of the North Coast 500, and the Melvich Hotel was ideally located for us to go on to John o' Groats and the Stacks of Duncansby.
We phoned ahead to say we would be late, and the hotel staff were very helpful on the phone with our most likely ETA. They also said the kitchen would probably be closed when we got there - but when we got there they were still ready and waiting for us. I had some lovely venison, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her cod.
We had a couple of drinks (from a well stocked bar) in the residents' lounge before going to bed. Our room was clean and comfortable and we both slept well after a long day of driving and sightseeing.
2 'full Scottish' breakfasts set us up nicely for our final day.
The hotel gave us everything we needed, was reasonably priced, and the staff were very helpful throughout - told us how long it would take us to get there, kept the kitchen open for us, advised us where best to get petrol on the Sunday - all very helpful to 2 'strangers'.
I could only recommend them to anyone travelling east or west across the extreme north of Scotland.
Character filled old Scottish hotel with views overlooking stunning cliffs!
Rooms have been updated, as have other parts of the hotel.
Stayed in small double, clean and compact, would suggest that a clothes rail or some hangers were installed, as we had nowhere to hang wet clothing.
We ate in both nights and the food and service were fantastic, try the freshly made pizza they are fabulous!
Staff were friendly, engaging and very helpful at all times.
Would definitely stay here again!
😊
It was a unforgettable stay. A wonderful hospitality. We had a room with two windows and a breathtaking view at the Atlantic with high waves a cliffs.
The very delicious dinner was served by a very nice and competent staff.
We enjoyed every single second!!!
Especially the talk with the manager. Unfortunately I have forgotten her name.
We cannot enough recommend this Hotel.
Arrived slightly early, room was ready, check in including COVID protocol smooth. Bedroom very large, fabulous view across to Melvich beach and beyond to the Orkney Islands. Bed super comfortable and a large en-suite with separate bath/shower. The wood fired pizzas which are the speciality of the hotel, are superb, and freshly made to order.
Hotel really friendly, and very accommodating for the stay there with our two dogs. All of the staff we came into contact with were so helpful. The room was bright and clean with nice decor. Both evening meal and breakfast were lovely. A great hotel in a beautiful location on the NC500 route - would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really nice and helpful staff who were working so hard. They had done everything to be compliant with Covid restrictions. Super spacious room with fabulous views and monster bathroom with bath and shower. Lovely decor - fresh and with character. Good restaurant with super views and great food. Really good hotel.
The staff were so friendly as soon as we arrived. We managed to get booked in for dinner at the hotel restaurant and the pizza was amazing and great value for money. Our room was clean and spacious with an amazing view and the bed was really comfy too. I would definitely recommend this hotel to stay in!
Loved everything about this hotel- the room was amazing, the food was unreal and the view was incredible. Staff were so welcoming and we felt so comfortable we’re trying to figure out how to justify the 4 hour drive to come back again! Highly recommend!!
We stayed here as part of the route of travelling the nc500 route. The hotel was exactly as we expected, simple, clean, homely, cosy friendly. Great food, friendly staff, cosy rooms, lovely location. Thanks!
Lovely period hotel with extension for rooms. Friendly, easy going staff. Able to provide simple (pizza) evening meal. Located in pretty village and good coastal scenary. Good breakfast.
