We were on our way to the Isles of Scilly, Many years ago had visited Barbara Hepworth Gallery & felt we would like to take the opportunity to visit again. It did not disappoint. We also enjoyed a visit to Tate St Ives. We ate dinner at The Source which was very good.
A place to actively rest, trails to hike, museums and galleries to visit, shops to browse and if that is just too much there are several phenomenal beaches on which to park your body and read a good book.
Fabulous wide, soft sandy beaches, with large swathes of shallow water to walk, swim and kids to safely paddle in when the weather is good and the tide is out. Though the food can be expensive, there is a lot of choice and it was fresh. Our favourite little cafe was 'The Yellow Canary',12 Fore S. The 'Scoff Troff Cafe' in Market Pl. also offered good food and the friendliest staff service ever. Even restaurants on the touristy Wharf Rd had quick friendly service; we recommend both 'Harbour Fish & Chips' and 'Caffe Pasta'. Do not miss the Barbara Hepworth Museum with it's amazing little garden, sculpture pieces and her studios. Tate St Ives hadn't much to see between exhibitions, but the terraced cafe on the fourth floor though limited and pricey has fabulous views. However, the almost empty St Ives Museum was a hidden gem and well worth visiting! We were privileged to attend a surprise event at St Ia's Parish Church, and recommend a visit to learn more about St Ia and see stunning stained glass windows on one side with plain lead light ones on the opposite for fishermen to keep an eye on their boats. We walked everywhere as this magical little seaside town with its narrow cobbled streets is no place for cars. Be prepared with good walking shoes or trainers, and changes in level. All the beaches were reached by flights of stone steps and some ramped paths. Good weather helped make our three day visit utterly memorable.
The photo opportunities are endless and beautiful views and sunsets etc. However, it's incredibly crowded and felt like London on sea. It's also the same price as London. £18 for a sandwich and a glass of wine in a pub in the town centre, so it's an expensive holiday. Lots of queuing and waiting in pubs and restaurants for example. Beautiful seaside though and clean air.
Be prepared for a lot of walking up and down as it is very hilly. Lovely beach and you can either learn how to surf or just watch people learning how to surf. I'm sure this location is very different for everyone who visits it as there is a variety of different things to do. For me, it was the galleries and the area in a art-historical sense.
Lovely to visit, hilly and would think it would be incredibly busy in the summer. Loved the Hepworth sculptures, in a fabulous garden. On the hosts recommendation ate at the Beach which was lovely and would not have found as it was a restaurant with wonderful sea veiws but over a very ordinary looking fish shop. I think it would avoid going in high season
The location to the beach was the selling point of this hotel. Within a 5 min walk you were on the sand, next to a great beach BBQ and restaurant (you need to book in advance! Highly recommend). We had amazing weather so we didn't have to be in the hotel much and so the location was brilliant in terms of getting into town or accessing to 2 min rail way to Carbis Bay. Rooms with a sea view offer a specular view of Porthmister Beach... just a shame you have to be in your hotel room.
A beautiful studio apartment. We loved our stay here. We enjoyed the walks down to St Ives. We found the apartment to be spacious and the beds were comfortable. The owner has thought of everything. The apartment is well equipped with all we needed for our stay. The location is quiet. We loved the extra things such as our welcome basket with scones. Overall a lovely stay in Saint Ives. Thank you. :)
Once we were upgraded we were very happy with the room. The breakfast was fabulous. The view was great. The bed was phenomenal, really big and comfortable. Adequate storage space. Staff were very nice in the main. The location of the hotel is also perfect, close to the best beach in town.
