    Lovely town to explore.

Lovely town to explore. Gold Hill the main attraction but the streets at the bottom of the hill have lots of character and some thatched properties..We found a lovely millennium garden and a some interesting shops. Not so much to do on a rainy day around the area this time of year as the NT properties are not open yet so suggest visiting March onwards.

Beautiful old town, cobbled streets, amazing views.

Beautiful old town, cobbled streets, amazing views. Gold Hill has to be seen (google Hovis advert) even my 20 year old was impressed. We had a wonderful breakfast at King Alfred’s Kitchen instead of eating at our hotel. We stayed at Grosvenor Arms Hotel, very central, no parking if you at staying but car parks are available. I live close to Arundel in West Sussex and it reminded me of the medieval history. Nice people, nice views, beautiful place to have a weekend away.

A beautiful part of Dorset with lots to see like Gold Hill and very good places to eat - The Mitre pub served delicious food with an amazing view. There are an interesting collection of shops to suit most people and the people were lovely.

It is hard to give a review of Shaftesbury, having spent just an overnight in the town. From first appearances, though, this town and environs is well worth a longer stay to explore. The Restaurant, San Tonino, is well worth a visit.

I thought it was a gorgeous town and I definitely want to go back. The buildings are so old and the town is full of historical interest. We only had a couple of hours, after coming to visit friends, and it was pouring with rain, but we went to Gold Hill and had a lovely hot chocolate there, and visited a gallery, and just really enjoyed walking around. We saw a house which Thomas Hardy featured in 'Jude the Obscure' and a yew tree that pre-dates Christianity. We briefly visited the free Gold Hill Museum and definitely would like to go back there. Apparently in the summer there is a lido.

Great place to visit and walk round very pretty place. But now the parking facilities for the hotel and local businesses in the High Street been made difficult. Very sad, especially for us older clientele. 🥲

The room was a good size and the bathroom and shower were good. I had dinner and there was a good selection on the menu. Breakfast and a good selection also and the Full English was just right, not too much. The pub has an area with sofas and chairs which is great for relaxation after a long day cycling and the beers on offer are good. There was a music night on the night I stayed and that was enjoyable. I was on a bike trip and they offered to store my bike in the pub overnight for security which was a nice gesture.

Location was just to the edge of the high street, so easy to access town center. Good amount of cafes, pubs, restaurants ect. This was the Fringe weekend which has hundreds of artists, performers over 2 days which was an added bonus. Kate our host was fantastic and made us feel very welcome, our room was spacious, with large t.v tea making facilities, comfortable large double bed. The bathroom had amazing views over Shaftesbury and was huge!

Property was very clean and well furnished to a good standard, beds were very comfy. The pool table under the dining table was a hit with the family. Location is good for a quiet stay and is a short drive away from Shaftesbury. Property has off road parking. Outdoor seating and patio area looked good but unfortunately due to the Great British weather we were not able to make use of these. Host communicated well up to and start of stay.

A brilliant home from home for a couple from which to explore the beautiful Dorset area. Everything provided you could wish for, very clean and great welcome. Lovely views from living room to a pretty garden then across playing fields to distant hills. Shaftesbury is a lovely small historic hilltop town and its easy to get to the many attractions of Dorset and its coast through beautiful little villages. Totally enjoyed our stay. Thanks

We stayed for 2 nights during the last hot spell. The garden is a lovely oasis for a pre dinner drink. We thoroughly enjoyed an evening meal there with the quality of food and cooking excellent. Breakfast also cooked to order using top quality products and generous in quantity. Mark and Mary are wonderful hosts. Shaftesbury itself is charming and well worth a visit.
