Prince Rupert Hotel, hotel in Shrewsbury

In the heart of historical Shrewsbury, The Prince Rupert Hotel offers period features and traditional charm.

The staff at the hotel were wonderful - very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We were a group of friends and all of our single rooms were very comfortable. Freshly cooked breakfast each morning was excellent and dinner on our first night was also very good. The hotel is very central - lots to see and do within walking distance, and cabs readily available for those who couldn't face the uphill return. I recommend reading the book "The Prince Rupert Hotel" telling their experience of housing the homeless during the first Covid lockdown

Rowton Castle, hotel in Shrewsbury

Rowton Castle is a beautiful 17th-century Grade II listed building, set in 17 acres of tranquil grounds, and 6 miles from the historic market town of Shrewsbury.

As soon as I arrived the staff were absolutely amazing, nothing is ever too much trouble. I travel a lot for work and so am by myself when I stay away but I was made to feel just like one of the family. The hotel its self including my gorgeous 4 poster bedroom was immaculate, large and one of the the comfiest beds I've ever slept in. The breakfast list was really good, everything you could think of was on it. It arrived piping hot and was delicious, I didn't eat in the evening but I'm sure the food and menu here would be second to none also. The grounds and gardens are very pretty and great for walking/jogging around. When ever I'm working in Shrewsbury and the surrounding areas I always stay overnight but I usually stay in a large modern hotel with spa, gym and pool. However, Rowton Castle has impressed me so much that I'll be using this place from now on and do with out the gym/pool.

To be honest, we made Shrewsbury a stop off point as we travelled to Wales for a weeks cottage holiday. We stopped on the 'way down' and on the 'way back', to break up long journeys. However, from our two half days in Shrewsbury it looks like a place for longer stays. The museum and art gallery were very interesting. The shopping areas were very good, with a good mix of larger names (M&S, Sea Salt, White Stuff ...) and independents. There were many eating places, but obviously we weren't able to make use of all but two in the town, both of which were very good. It looks like a place we will return to!

Shrewsbury is a great town to visit which we do several times a year. Summer time is definitely worth a visit but we go all year round and always enjoy ourselves. Full of history, quirky hotels, bars and restaurants and great for shopping. Umai restaurant is outstanding for us food always delicious. A trip on the river boat highly recommended. Several places to park all within a short distance of the centre.

The town is packed full of historic beautiful biuldings Riverside walk is an absolute must... Town centre to Castlefields especially. The Abbey, castle , and lots of one off shops. Hidden in nooks and crannies are such delights as the old post office the old prison and boutiques. Don't miss The Dingle gardens as you take the walk.

An absolute surprise - we spent all day just walking round Shrewsbury and being delighted by what we found - including the Market Hall which is something we don't see many of in the south of England.

Shrewsbury there is plenty of places to eat and drink resonable prices Plenty of shops easy to get around a bit hilly in parts for people with mobility issues. good walks along river bank and in parks plenty of space to wonder if you don't want the town.

This was our second time in Shrewsbury and still lots to see and do. The prison is a must to visit and is well worth the entrance fee, especially is you do the self guided tour. The majority of the pubs and independant shops are dog friebdly, which is a huge bonus if your four legged friend is with you. The blitz hill museum in Ironbridge is worth a visit. We paid £26.50 each entrance fee but it was well worth the money and ypu could spend all day there looking at and interacting with the exhibits. There are some oldy worldy little streets to walk down and a walk along the river is a must. The darwin trail is well worth doing, very interesting and comoletely free

this was one of the worst experiences of my life. I turned up, the hotel had closed down. the entire town was booked up because of a rock concert and the nearest place I could stay was 15 miles away!!!!!! thank god for an old school friend that put me up for two nights. yes, I called the owners. they DID NOT CARE!!!! I cried so much, it was a dreadful experience.

Located just on the edge of Shrewsbury town centre, it's a good distance from the river and restaurants with 2 parking spaces available and a corner shop next door. Mostly as described but angles towards an airbnb vibe more than a hotel or cottage stay.
