FAQs about hotels in Southampton

Historic Port of Walls

Departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centred around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.

There is much older history in the city centre where the 15th-century city walls are amongst the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.

Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Centre, while high street stores in the city centre and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city is well served by theatres, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.

There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks are Grade II-listed. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.

If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre.

Southampton is a lovely city with a bustling town centre. It's famous for being the port from where the Titanic set off. I really like West Quay as a shopping mall - there's a lot of good places to eat at. I also like the entire stretch of High Street, there are weekly markets and also some pop ups stalls sometimes. The art gallery and library are free to enter, and you can also enjoy SeaCity Museum for a small fee. It's a wonderful city to walk in and just chill, but it's not as jam packed as London. However, from Southampton you can head to Winchester, the Isle of Wight, Brighton, Bournemouth, Beaulieu and more! There's also Paulton's Park which is home to Peppa Pig World. The buses are usually very efficient, and you have Uber or taxi services everywhere. All in all it's a great place to visit.

Southampton is like most cities in the UK.

Southampton is like most cities in the UK. Large shopping centre with various high street options and eateries. It has a leisure centre for swimming, plenty of gyms and large green spaces / parks to walk and talk in. It has strong ties to the Titanic story, as the ship left from one of the docks there. The museum is worth a visit. The Mayflower theatre has great shows on regularly.

Would have been nice to have stayed but I wasn't permitted to change my booking. I booked for one night for an early hospital appointment that was changed at the last minute. Despite there being vacancies for my changed date the hotel would not allow me to change my original booking so I lost my payment.

Lovely historic port city, great shopping facilities and choose of restaurants in and around the city centre. Parking in multi-storey was best as outside parking restrictions mean it can be congested. Great pedestrian shopping areas too. Coastal parks and green spaces make the areas for recreation great to explore. Port for departing cruises and being a university city means a diverse young population. Would recommend over nearby Portsmouth any day.

Lovely hotel, everything was superb. Just a bit pricey. Would definitely go again though, and book earlier to get a better rate. We really liked the very comfortable bed, the spacious room and bathroom, the superb restaurant, the pool, jacuzzi and steam room, and the glass lift! Proximity to Southampton City Centre and the waterfront was brilliant too - so easy to see the city and all it has to offer.

The hotel is very impressive, set in the heart of the docklands area of Southampton. The staff were excellent and so friendly. Nothing was a problem to them. I had dinner with colleagues in the more casual dining area on the 6th floor beside the bar. The food was good, and the bar was very cosy with a chilled vibe. They had a great selection of spirits, an extensive drinks menu, and a lovely cocktail list.

The Moxy is fresh, modern, funky, the main lobby/bar and rooms are very clean and well appointed and a great location for West Quay, food outlets, bars and the sea front. We have stayed in both the Moxy & Premier Inn just next door prior to cruising, the Premier Inn is a good hotel & brand, but i am sorry to say the one at West Quay needs a makeover as its looking slightly tired.

The location is good and the price is fair but the property is not easy to access as entry codes are not provided early enough to allow us to receive them before departing from our home country. Having no internet access in the UK, it made it almost impossible to enter the hotel without the help of a kind stranger who had internet access.

The location was an easy walk from the train and a minute to the downtown. The hotel was much nicer than I anticipated for what seemed like a bargain price. I loved the little touches of tea and coffee service set up in our room with cookies. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious.
