Dellwood Hotel, hotel in Southend

Dellwood Hotel is set on the main road into Campbeltown. Set In its own grounds and 5 minutes’ walk from the town centre, the family-run Dellwood has a restaurant, bar and free WiFi.

We chose Dellwood (17th-19th April 2024) on a whim, and so glad we did. Bruce and Tracey were the ideal hosts. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. We'd booked a double but they were more than happy to set-up a blow-up mattress for our son. They also opened the downstairs bar up for a late afternoon whiskey (or 2) where we found out they knew the farm at Gobagrennan where long distant relatives (ie 1700-1800s) lived and worked . Our stay was fantastic and we would not hesitate to go back. Breakfast was more than ample. It was a great stop and disappointed we could not stay longer. Dog friendly and some great stories told by the hosts...very grateful to Bruce for sharing a (now very treasured) trinket with our son. On our list to return!

Southend which is about a 20 minute walk from the cottage is a very quiet sleepy village with one central store that has an amazing tearoom selling fantastic cakes. For a busier place you would need to head up to Campbeltown which has a high street, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants and is 8 miles from the cottage.

Southend is a very small Hamlet

Southend is a very small Hamlet There are some historic places to visit as well as a couple of lovely beaches to walk along or risk a paddle in the sea . Local Seal population is healthy and like to sunbathe on rocks at Tourist Parking area. You MUST try the Muneroy Tea Rooms on the village, their range of cakes is amazing as are the portions. The Tea Room itself is a step back in time to a more relaxed and peaceful time where you can sit and enjoy good food and company. If you do fancy a bit of adventure and seeing a bit of the area off road then there is a local Horse Riding facility - Wilder Ways, they will happily arrange for you to get out in the local area on horseback for even better views of the countryside.

It's a great place, it definitely does feel like the end of Kintyre but embrace the trip down the A83 - a real stunner of a road. Lovely beaches, quiet seclusion, good walks, lots of wildlife and stunning sunsets.
