Excellent dinner, well cooked and flavoursome. Portion size just right - I could have had other additions if I had chosen to. Service was swift, courteous and smooth. The setting was lovely and everything sparkled. Breakfast was also well cooked and served at the table in a timely manner. Elegant china and cutlery. Breakfast choice was excellent.
Room and bed were excellent,.

Stamford is a beautiful Georgian market town with lots of things to do and places to visit nearby. Shopping is very enjoyable as there are plenty of independent shops as well as the usual clothing chains. The Friday open air market was excellent and there were lots of bargains to be had. The choice of restaurants and cafes was very good. We can recommend Amore for its Italian cuisine and Kancchi for Indian/ Nepalese food, but would advise that you book in advance if possible.

Easy to get around hills are gentle and manageable for those with limited walking. The Hong Kong Chinese restaurant is very good, but needs to be booked as tables go quickly. Street market on Fridays and a lots of boutique shops. The St Martins Antique centre offers a extensive range of interesting collectables.
Premium Taxis are very reasonable £3.00 from the High Street back to the William Cecil Hotel.

Stamford a picturesque market town in the south western...
Stamford a picturesque market town in the south western district of Lincolnshire accommodating 17th and 18th century stone buildings creating a quaint charming characterful location amongst half-timbered Elizabethan housing and 5 medieval parish churches.
The Romans built Erasmine Street across what is now Burghley Park Estate and forded to the River Welland west of Stamford also built a town north of Great Casterton on the River Gwash. In 61 AD Boudica of the Iceni followed the Roman Legion Legio IX Hispana across the river. The Anglo-Saxon later chose Stamford as the main town and appeared in the Doomsday Book 1086 as Stanford.
As the Great North Road passed through Stamford which became a halting town for travellers, Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth, James I and Charles I all passed through making a post station for the Postal Service during Elizabeth I reign. We stayed for our 13th anniversary, immediately disappointed to find that a dinner jacket and smart shoes were needed to dine in the formal dining room. If booking.com had stated that this was needed i would have brought with me. We decided to eat elsewhere and come back for drinks later in the evening, the hotel bars/snugs and reading rooms are extremely cosy, the hotel is an ideal location to visit the surrounding area and Stamford. Breakfast was excellent and the staff made us feel extremely welcome.
The proximity to Stamford Town center, it was 12 minute walk, with Private parking and my own private entrance.
The room offered everything I needed, a home away from home. Spotlessly
clean, light, bright and airy. Local art & images adorned the walls. Excellent provision of instant and ground fresh coffee, teas, sugars etc. loads of fresh milk, butter, jams, 3 options on breakfast cereals. Full size fridge, microwave and toaster. Rachel
popped in to say hello and check I was all sorted.
The hotel was well located in Stamford. The room was very comfortable, with double glazed windows which cut out all outside noise. The room also had excellent coffee making facilities, and bottled still and sparkling water were complimentary.
The ensuite bathroom was very large, with a selection of toiletries
from The White Company and fabulously soft towels.
The choice of breakfast was very varied and included full English breakfast, vegan breakfast and eggs Benedict. All delicious.
Stamford is amazing, and this cottage was perfectly set so it was in the middle of town, but on a side quiet street. Claire supplies all these little things to make your stay better and the little things in many ways are the big things. She provided snacks, food, drinks, top quality shampoo, conditioner, skin care, anti bacterial, and even a full sized bar of soap. Very comfortable, really clean, all the modern conveniences, and wonderfully designed and decorated.
Wonderful relaxing evening.Staff super friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. We didn’t require dinner but staff created delicious cheese platter for us which we were able to enjoy sitting by the fire with a quality glass of wine.
The pub/hotel is set in a beautiful picturesque village and so convenient to Stamford.
Lovely stay at the William Cecil really attentive staff and lovely surroundings. Stamford is a beautiful town. We stayed in the Cecil Room was lovely and big. In evening we sat in the bar and enjoyed the really chilled nature of this hotel . Most of all we had a lovely relaxing break from our mad and busy work lives.
The house is lovely. Room was sparkling clean, spacious, bed was very comfortable, bathroom was spotless. Katie is really nice and she offered a delicious breakfast. Location was incredibly convenient, 2min away (if that) from the station, and a short walk to Stamford's city centre.
Idyllic location not far from Stamford and within easy reach of places to visit and places to eat. Accommodation perfect for a couple and a very relaxed holiday. Beautifully kept grounds with lots of birds and rural views. Very friendly and helpful hosts.
Great location for walking into Stamford centre. A lovely hotel with period features. Bar area was cosy and the restaurant breakfast was great. Staff helpful and friendly. Touches in the room such as coffee machine and homemade biscuits were appreciated.
Absolutely top notch. We returned for our 30 year anniversary that we spent on our honeymoon. The room the food and the staff were incredible. This historic hotel set in such a beautiful old town made our romantic event memorable beyond expectation.
Perfect place. Five minutes from train station, and the George Hotel with lovely Meadows. Two lovely double bedrooms with well fitted kitchen, and fab sitting room on third floor with great rooftop view of Stamford.
Great location in a small village near Stamford, easy access to A1.The pub looked lovely though we didn't use it as we went out to dinner and needed somewhere local to stay. Would happily stay there again.
