We stayed at Wheatsheaf Hotel, and it was superb. Swinton is a very small, remote village in the Scottish borders. It appears on this, our first visit, to be sleepy and have little to do, but this was in January so it is probably not a true reflection. There are, however, a number of bigger towns within a reasonably short drive. so a car is essential to get about.

Very good food (both evening meal & breakfast) and the real ale looked good too (I did not try sadly). Staff are very friendly and welcoming. I needed to work and they pointed me to a downstairs table, WiFi and looked after me until done. If you go take any books DVDs you no longer want and check out the bus stop near the old church which is a community swap stop! (although you may come away with replacements :) )DDavidUnited Kingdom

Lots of sofas for lounging about in the evening. The kitchen was big enough to cook big dinners for everyone and sit down at the big kitchen table to eat. Lovely views from all the windows. The staff were friendly and efficient. Cooked Scottish breakfast very good and served quickly, piping hot. Room and bed very comfortable. No problems with parking space.

Have stayed here 3 times and would do so again. The only thing that might put off some visitors is that Swinton is a very small village and the hotel is the only place to go.
