In summary: food very good; lounge/bar not a comfortable area; dining room ambience soulless; room good except for electricals and heating. The strength of Farthings is the ability of the chef to produce very good meals. The front-of-house staff seemed to have a disinterested attitude as if they regretted being in the hospitality trade. No-one raised a smile. Perhaps they really are in the wrong job and to the detriment of their guests?

The environs were better than the centre although the churches and Museum are worth a visit. Traffic heavy in places and most streets not pedestrianised. I would recommend 'Augustus' for a special meal (Michelin starred). Most other restaurants very unspectacular. Brasserie meal in the 'Castle Hotel' disappointing.
My favourite places are the Quantocks, The West Somerset Railway and Hestercombe Gardens.

Taxi overcharged me on the motorway route after being told it was £25 I got charged £34. He would only take one route that I thought was cheaper. I tried calling him the next day due to no public bus services available. No response. Claimed he arrived fromRomania in 2003. An English person from Taunton Taxis helped me out the next day with an awesomely cheaper rate, and showed me how to get to the basic bus route. Brilliant service from Taunton Taxis. Would highly recommend them but you have to phone as they are not allowed to sit in aTaxi rank apparently, where the expensive guy was....??
Some people here do not know where things are. Bus services do not run on Sundays if you are a traveller, tourist, worker etc.
Prior experience here I was left to sleep in the street, no offer to provide a place to sleep, had a food poisoned experience by local street van vendor, not seen here on revisit where public toilets were intentionally closed and Male urinals open. I am a woman!
Bag of personal belongings stolen from the local library, taken into custody via police where items were returned after it being opened. This was bag with clothes, research books and personal property linking to identity and legal documents were accessed. That was with CCTV.

We came for the County Classics Car Museum which has recently opened. Lots of shiny cars and motorbikes, friendly staff. We also went for a couple of walks close by - one at Ilminster and one at Castle Naroche. We stayed at the Corner Hotel. The meal in their restaurnat (pre-book) was excellent.

Taunton is a nice unusual town with lots of different shops. It is near to the River Tonne and has a museum( although I didn't get a chance to visit on this occasion) It is very close to the cricket ground and has 2 beautiful churches. Nearby there is a nice park called Vivary Park. There are two Park and Rides called Silk Mills and Gateway and the bus runs between the two. It only costs £2 return and you park in the Park and Ride car park for free. The cattle market is no longer held in the town, though.

We went for a live band rock n roll event in the Lawns club it was brilliant they have live music events often.
Lovely walk in the park it has a lovely children's play area with Cafe and outdoor climbing ropes / crazy golf lots to do .
Friendly staff, good access to restaurant, cafe and bars, including a garden set up for refreshements/ dining.
Nice comfortable en-suite room. Lift if required. Fan in room.
Right in the middle of Taunton, a nice town, plenty of shops. I watched a steel band 😁
There is a great modern museum just past the garden in the grounds, with a lovely coffee shop and seating outside. Plus an small ancient house. If you are lucky there is a lady in costume who will tell you all about it.
The owner was very nice and chatty and very knowledgeable about the area. It is very close to Taunton itself. It was very quiet outside and we slept very well. Breakfast was delicious and well received. Nothing was too much trouble. Room and Hotel had an oldy worldly feel but we really liked that and our en-suite was very modern and had a good pump for the shower.
We will certainly stay again if in that area.
There wasn't a breakfast option and the room was quite stuffy, due to the combination of very hot weather and a poor quality Aircon unit. No decaf hot drink sachets was slightly disappointing but staff were friendly; hotel is in a perfect position close to the station and cricket ground and it's good value for a single night stay to watch a Somerset match!
We had a lovely overnight stay at the property just outside Taunton. The owners are considerate in all aspects. From plates and cutlery to allow you to eat a takeaway in your room to milk in the fridge for tea and coffee.
The breakfast was superb - I had a light one as I had overindulged for the rest of the holiday but what I had was fresh and excelent.
The room and bathroom we're exceptionally large for a Europran hotel.. The windows were large, they opened easily and my room faced a pleasant garden.the room had a nice selection of tea and coffee. Fresh milk and water were provided. The sandwich I ordered from the deli was delicious.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
After traveling for over 24 hours, the welcome we got was amazing. Such lovely people and a lovely home, we had our own space but felt like we were being welcomed it a family home.
Location was great for us, we were visiting family in Taunton and could walk off the main road from No.2 to their place.
We had a very nice room - on the ground floor as requested because of my husband’s heart condition.
The reception service was excellent. Dinner very good, although the menu more limited than advertised.
Parking worked well and hotel is sited a short walk from Taunton’s interesting centre.
The location of hotel to transport and it was an easy walk into the town centre.
Nickie was lovely friendly person and went out of her way to provide great customer care. Thanks Nickie for trying to get the TV to work on Saturday evening. We will be back to stay again.
Room was nice - Four poster bed clean and all essential facilities. The hotel was in an ideal situation for access to the town centre and in walking distance to Vivary Park. Parking was fine in the small hotel car park that also sells spaces to the public.
Staff were brilliant, everyone we encountered was lovely. We paid for breakfast and were not disappointed! Hotel itself was nice! Location was good, just based around the corner from town centre and easy access with parking.
very central and close to Taunton College where next day event we were attending. clean room. everything good. maybe more variety for breakfast such as croissants. friendly staff
It was very clean and well equipped, close to town centre and ideal for our visit to relatives in Taunton.
Would recommend The Skewer House for an evening meal.
