There has obviously been a lot of money spent on the furnishings of this hotel and our room looked very nice on first viewing.

I arrived late and hadn’t eaten. The other guests had all gone to bed. The lady was warm and welcoming and provided me with a much needed hot meal and a large glass of wine. Invaluable service and much appreciated. Room clean and spacious and bed was very comfortable.

Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.
Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town.
A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant!
There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay.
All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!

There were lots of local shops, cafes and a local market at the weekend. The old town centre was very quaint. It wasn't too busy or too quiet. There is a locally run cinema. It is less than 20mins on the train to York. The locals are friendly.

A lovely little town that has shops, a little market and nice cafe’s. You can see where James Herriot lived and worked and everything is in walking distance from where you park. There is plenty of parking and it’s free for an hour. It is a must see little town.
The property was beautifully presented and very clean. Allison was really clear with information about how to find and enter the property, and we received some lovely welcome chocolates once inside!
Property location was perfect, right in the centre of Thirsk and close to supermarkets, shops and cafes. just a few minutes walk to get some coffee and breakfast each morning!
Would definitely recommend staying at The Old Surgery for a weekend in Thirsk or to explore the local area.
Alex was top notch as a host. Excellent location for visiting the north moors as well as the Yorkshire dales. Everybody was friendly that we met at the Kings Arms we ended up talking to locals as well as residents. I want to go again as we only scratched at seeing the local scenery. We absolutely loved the North Yorkshire Moors and wondered why we had never been before.
I like the idea of a key safe. Thirsk is a very good central location and has most everything you would want. People very friendly and helpful. Interesting town too. Cottage location was great, easy walk into Thirsk and getting about to other places. The cottage is a good size for two people. The owner was very helpful. WiFi and TV very good.
Decent sized room and a large bathroom. Comfortable bed. Good selection on tv. Had dinner (selections were limited as kitchen was out of two items I wanted) and food was okay. The dining room in the restaurant is elegant. Breakfast made to order and was very good. Free parking in back. Friendly host at desk. Great location in Thirsk.
A lovely B&B 2 doors down from James Herriott’s Museum, a short walk from the market square in Thirsk, all set somewhere between the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and the gorgeous North York Moors. Geoffrey couldn’t have been a more gracious and helpful host! Very large nice room, comfortable bed with wonderful linens and many amenities.
The cottage was in an excellent location - quiet but only minutes from the centre of Thirsk with parking outside. The accommodation was lovely, well equipped and comfortable. The hosts were welcoming and sent information before the visit which was clear and helpful. We would certainly return in the future.
Just outside Thirsk, in an excellent position for visiting the North Yorkshire area. Modern accommodation with own entrance and good quality furnishings. Very well equipped and spotlessley clean. Andrea is a lovely host, she couldn't be more helpful and her breakfasts were super. We hope to return.
Situated in the center of Thirsk close to all amenities. This was our 2nd visit to the Hotel this year and the high standard hadn't dropped and personal attention to detail remains high. This is a typical small hotel catering for the traditional English holiday maker. Breakfast was 10 of of 10.
It was as expected for a budget hotel. No frills but the staff were welcoming and helpful. Plenty of free parking. A secure room on the ground floor was made available for us to store our bikes. Just a few minutes drive to Thirsk. The room we had overlooked open countryside.
Highly recommend, if staying in the area would be first choice.
The room was large and comfortable with full range of tea coffee etc.
The hotel dinner menu was extensive, the service was excellent, the food of a good quality, as was the breakfast
Beautiful peaceful location. A very comfortable cosy cottage with an excellent kitchen which has everything you would need for a self catering break. Would definitely return if in the area and would recommend to others.
Spotlessly clean, comfortable and cosy cottage. Great location with only a short walk to the centre of Thirsk. Welcome pack is a lovely touch. Everything you need to make it a home from home.
The property is extremely well maintained and offered great accomadation. Lovely little quirky bits like the Alice in Wonderland area. Lovely large bathrooms
