Lovely village to walk around. The boating lake is central to everything. Go and visit the Thorpness emporium for a look around followed by a coffee @the kitchen.
If you are looking for a good pub for dinner go to The Dolphin Inn, a good menu and its dog friendly; as are lots of eateries in the area.

Thorpeness is a designer village based around a shallow boating pond called The Meare and a tennis courts etc.It is on the beach with plenty of parking close to it. There is no village shop so you would need to go down the coast to get supplies.

Thorpeness is a busy village.
Thorpeness is a busy village. It has both the sea & the river. There is a cafe, which serves delicious food but is a bit pricey. There is a duck pond & boating lake. A pub & tea rooms. A short drive or walk in fine weather is Aldeburgh. Both places are very doggie friendly

We have been coming to Thorpeness since the 1960's.
We have been coming to Thorpeness since the 1960's. Irrespective of massive changes to the ownership of the "estate" the village, mere and beach still retain their charm. Its our favourite watering hole in the entire UK.
For me it is a great swimming beach but parents should note that the sea floor shelves quickly and tide and currents can be dangerous.

A small village with a very large boating waterways for holidaymakers. The golf course is first class. The whole area is great as a base with plenty of place to visit such as Aldburgh and Leiston only a few miles away. Plenty opf choice of pubs and caffes in the surrounding area but peaceful if you want that. Definitely worth a visit.

Good location for exploring the area.
Good location for exploring the area.
Options to eat at a nearby tearoom or local pub.
Very well maintained, busy but peaceful.
Boat hire available.
Our third stay and will come back.
Highly recommended.
The location is excellent, right in the middle of the holiday village of Thorpeness which is quaint, busy in the day and quiet at night. The restaurant is busy , though and worth booking. The rooms are lovely, very individual, well thought out and exceptionally clean, warm and welcoming. Tea and coffee facilities were good quality. The staff are truly lovely, friendly but not over friendly and the food was excellent. Their breakfast choices are wonderfully eclectic and locally sourced. We love this place and return regularly.
The location is fantastic, it’s a five minute walk to the beach and if you enjoy the history of Thorpeness was apparently one of the early properties.
It is just down the road from the “house in the clouds” and two minutes from The Dolphin pub and The Kitchen, both great places to eat out.
There are footpaths straight from the property and you probably won’t need to get in the car again for your stay as Aldeburgh is a reasonable walk.
The location was ideal as I had a golf competition at Aldeburgh GC and Lyn loves to walk along the beach.
The little studio flat was just right for a 2 night stay.
The facilities were excellent and communications perfect.
We had a meal at the local pub on the first night and for the 2nd night went into Aldeburgh.

It was a lovely new and clean, well designed property with great finishings. In walking distance to the beach and little village of Thorpeness with a couple of great cafes and a lovely welcoming pub with great food. walking distance (45 mins) to Aldeburgh. Free parking.
Location in Thorpeness, half way between Southwold and Sutton Hoo that we were visiting, and a walk from Aldeburgh. complementary nibbles and wine - very thoughtful. Phonecall to say it was ready before the checking in time in case we wanted to get there early.
My two friends and I were on a bicycle tour of Sussex. Thorpeness Golf Club hotel met all our expectations during our two night stay. The rooms, breakfast and dinner and time at the bar were most enjoyable and we would thoroughly recommend it.
Beautiful location right next to the beach. Great walks from the door to Thorpeness and Aldeburgh. Beds really comfy. Very clean. Easy to find - perfect for dog walks. A great base for exploring the coast.
The property itself was very comfortable and clean. Location was excellent, plenty to do and experience in Thorpeness and surrounding areas. The area felt very safe and family friendly, great cycle routes.
Fantastic location, beautiful bar and hotel....food was excellent, and the room clean and well equipped.
The service was lovely....everone so friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommend a stay here.
Thorpeness is a delightful place to visit. 1 South Cotrages was a lovely place to stay. Only small problem was the stairs they were very steep and narrow.
But we managed them
The annexe is a charming little addendum to the hotel with a lovely view of the golf course. Very comfortable. Hotel is informal but effocient. A pleasure to stay there
