Excellent location and friendly staff. I arrived later than expected and was delighted to be offered a hot meal. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. Thanks once again for packed lunch due to early start. This was a really great stopover on my walking trip. Hospitality much appreciated and can thoroughly recommend.

Nice hostel, had it all for myself which was a bit eerie but no surprise that time of the year. Bedrooms were okay, bit squeeky but else. Community room was nice and spacious, very big kitchen. The location is also nice, a lovely village with all you need. Visit the Whisky castle if you like whisky

Breakfast was fine A good enough choice. The room was clean, comfortable and warm. A lovely lounge to sit in after our evening meal but as the hotel caters for coach parties there sometimes wasn't so much space. Bar well stocked with whiskies and local bottles of beer. Not much draft beer (as opposed to lager). The menu was the same each night - a 'special' or two would have added to the variety. All the staff were great. Very friendly, very helpful. They are a definite bonus and would make me return.

The countryside around provides plenty of peaceful walks, skiing is also available at the nearby Lecht Ski Centre, who manage to provide skiing even when there is very little snow about !
The Richmond Arms Hotel is the place to stay. Provides a great base with fantastic ownership, service, food and drink.

Even at the height of summer, be prepared with your layered wind and waterproofs. As long as you have the correct clothing, the fine views to the Cairngorms and village walks can be enjoyed fully. There is plenty of bird life to view. The gift shop and clock restaurant are well appointed and worth patronising.

Friendly village.
Friendly village. Lovely cafes and a wonderful gift shop Spendrift. I did some Christmas shopping there and it was only May!. Best bacon rolls ever at the cafe across the main road from the house. We ate out at the Richmond hotel which is dog friendly and we also had an excellent fish supper from a van which comes on a Tuesday late afternoon. There are lots of lovely walks around the village itself as well as others in the surrounding area which is beautiful . Ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.

Richmond Hotel also did excellent food.
Richmond Hotel also did excellent food.
Sadly The Clock Restaurant across the road is not currently open due to Covid restrictions. Having been to Tomintoul three times previously I can highly recommend the available accommodation and the location in general.
We hadn't been to Tomintoul and the area north of Deeside before, but it's a beautiful area - a little softer than the central Cairgorms and with many nice waymarked walks in the Glenlivet estate. The Annex is part of a main house, but we never heard a peep from the owners while we were there. They did however give us a friendly welcome. The apartment is newly decorated and well equipped, including practical items such as a blanket to cover the sofa to protect it from our dogs. It was a really nice place to stay.
lovely, comfortable, beautifully decorated, great facilities, well equipped kitchen, kind and thoughtful touches and welcome! great enclosed garden for the dog to mooch about in. perfect location for walks in the Cairngorms. village has everything you need - well stocked local shop and hotel bars/restaurants nearby - I recommend the Richmond Arms for good old fashioned home cooked food at a very reasonable price.
House was very clean and tidy as was the garden. I chose this property with my dog in mind as she is used to having a safe garden to run in and this was exceptionally good and safe. The house was well equipped. It was a home from home. We liked Tomintoul itself. A friendly place and nice cafes and pubs which allow dogs in. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t too kind to us but no one can be blamed for that.
B&B work in progress but having said that, the house is an eclectic collection of the life and experiences of the very warm and friendly owners. The breakfast was hearty and filling, showcasing food from the surrounding towns. Location wise, it’s right in the middle of town behind Hotel Square. (It was once the tavern of a hotel at the same site)
Historic inn in the highest village of Scotland. Lovely location, large room. Excellent dinner and breakfast! Martin (innkeeper) was friendly and the place was comfortable and cozy. Inn is on the square in Tomintoul but it is a quiet and peaceful village. Kept windows open the entire night and had no noise.
Location was convenient. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and it was very good. Food was delicious and reasonably priced (breakfast was included). Leah was our server for both. She was attentive, hard working, pleasant and friendly.
Friendly staff however our room was very basic, no radiator in shower, very small electric radiator in bedroom and a bit dated. The staff did accommodate our bikes which was much appreciated. The hotel has so much character and we wish it every success . Breakfast was reasonable,
A lovely warm welcome at this cosy hotel.
I was up to run The Dramathon. Staff were so friendly, accomodating and helpful, provided me with a packed lunch and even left bath salts in my bathroom on my return from the run.
Cosy log fire in the dining room. Meals delicious.
I was in room7,would agree with other reviews that road noise was a problem.Food there was ok-nothing special but for £50 what do you expect…infact go across the road to the other pub/hotel and see what they are like!!!!
lovely guesthouse in Tomintoul with facilities around, cosy, spacious and clean rooms with a beautiful decoration, very friendly and helpful owners... Thank you for the pleasant stay :-)
The Argyle Guest House is a well run establishment with everything needed for a brief or extended stay. The rooms are spacious and well put together and the hostess is wonderful.
Everything about the place! The owner took time to introduce herself. The warmth of everyone attached to the hotel. Good room and nice bar for the evening meal and drinks!
Found this gem of a hotel last minute. Comfortable, charming inn. Had live music and a cooked breakfast, which exceeded my expectations.
I'd def return if in the area
