The Sheep and Penguin is a brilliant, newly refurbished little inn. We had the pleasure of staying a couple of nights there. It's a great base to explore Wells and the wider Somerset region from. Excellent customer service from all of the staff, especially the manager Dan who made us feel completely welcome and gave us some excellent local recommendations. The pub downstairs is fantastic and the food was top notch. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished, with a very comfy bed! We would highly recommend that everyone visiting Wells or Somerset should stay here!

Staff exceptionally cheerful and helpful; Good extensive parking at this time of the year; very attractive location as long as you are not put off by all the Wookey Hole caves razzmatazz right next to the hotel. no problem with noise - just the visuals. Also you need to be prepared to drive along narrow roads for access

Very comfortable and friendly. Typical old village pub feel. Comfortable bed with good sized room and instant hot water with powerful shower. Excellent food both at dinner and breakfast. Good beer. Very small wine list. Nice atmosphere. The parking was fairly easy and right outside the front door. The location is interesting - right on the bus route between Wells and Bath with hourly buses so not a bad location for sightseeing in either city. Good stop-off if you are heading for the South Coast etc.

Absolutely fabulous ❤️ it doesn’t get any more quintessential than this. Like stepping back in time but with beautiful modern facilities. Home made cake on the terrace, a fab little honesty bar and the most welcome hosts. They couldn’t have been nicer. Breakfast was delicious - thank you we had the best stay we will see you again!

Our trip was specifically to visit the rural levels and also to catch up on a friend in the area. We did not visit Wells on this occasion so can't comment specifically. However if you want to be well situated to explore the area Wookey Hole and its hotel is a good place to be. Locally there is the Ebor Gorge within walking distance and road access to most of the area is accessible although you must be happy driving on some narrow roads. Hotel is definitely not luxury but is clean and convenient with excellent staff. Good value for money if looking for convenience rather than luxury.

We visited Wells Cathedral, which is an absolutely stunning place, the staff are very welcoming and the donation system is very reasonable. The only thing I would say is if there is anyone with Auditory sensory issue, check if they are cleaning the organ before going in as this did dampen my experience not knowing at the time. The library is up a set of s prial stairs so not accessible, however if you have someone willing to run up and take some pictures, it does look like a wonderful place.

Wells is a beautiful, small city, dominated by it's immense Cathedral. We very much enjoyed both. We spent time within the Cathedral, enjoying it's beauty, a service, and a concert. The shops and restaurants were varied and good, and the market exceptional. The Bishop Palace Gardens were our final treat with it's restful water gardens. All in all an ideal short holiday destination.
An excellent 3 night stay while visiting family and surrounding areas. I arrived a little early but was readily checked in - luggage collected for me and a room upgrade too which was wonderful. Such a charming and characterful hotel with all amenities and a lovely helpful and friendly staff.
My room was extremely comfortable with plenty of space to spread out and unwind.
A convenient location right in the middle of Wells with its cathedral and bishops palace - some lovely little shops and I happened to land on market day too!
Just perfect really. Great location just off of A371 near Wells. We stayed in Dairy Cottage which is attached to the main farm house. It has its own little outside area. The cottage was well equipped and really comfortable and very quiet. You are far enough from the A371 so not disturbed by it. I didn't meet the owner Carol, everything was organised via Booking / text messages but Carol was on hand should there have been any issues. I wouldn't hesitate in thoroughly recommend this cottage.
The place is amazing for it is an old, 17th century place. It ia basicely facing the cathedral even if not direct view on it. The rooms are quiet and simple but pleasant comfort. There is no luxury there, just pleasantly ancient and beautiful especially the pub with attractions sometimes like a band singing but the hotel is quiet. And it is as a foreign tourist great fun to live abive a pub and spend the evening drinking a glass of wine or else in "our pub"
This property is fabulous! The decor is lovely, the garden is gorgeous, the beds are so comfortable, and the shower has great water pressure. I kind of want to move in.
Do yourself a favor and make the walk into Wells across the Palace Fields. The approach to the city is fantastic and you can also see the Glastonbury Tor. This property was perfect in every way. I would love to come back for another visit. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
Staff were fantastic ..nothing was to much trouble ...excellent catering with full English breakfast and evening meals ...good quality and fair prices ..always served with a smile ..

It's a value for money Hotel ...basic ..but that is all we needed for our family visit to Wells ....I would definably book again ..and stay for a few nights .
Sarah, hotel owner was fantastic, couldn't do enough for us. Even made her washing machine available to us.
Terrific room, tastefully decorated with extras. Great bathroom, clean and functional.
All staff in hotel were welcoming. Parking was an issue but made easy with staff assistance.
Easy walk up to market square and stunning Wells Cathedral
Beautiful hotel, our room was room 3 and we had a spectacular view of the Cathedral which was lit up beautifully at night. Bed very comfortable, room was clean and well decorated. In a perfect location for a visit to Wells. Staff member on front desk was particularly polite and helpful. Loved the quirky details and would definitely stay again.
Everything you could think of was provided. It was a beautiful apartment right in the centre of Wells. It was spacious with lots of personal touches which made it very comfortable. My sister and I often stay at The Swan Hotel in Wells but this apartment will now be our first go to when booking further trips to Wells.
A lovely historic hotel in a central location. Our room overlooking the market square had a good view of the cathedral. Warm welcome with helpful advice and a good breakfast included. Also great value for money. All staff friendly and helpful. Would stay again if visiting Wells which is a great place to visit.
Fantastic location with stunning views across the town of Wells. A very warm welcome, spacious, comfortable and very clean room. An outstanding place to rest and recoup after a long day travelling and working. Superb, freshly prepared breakfast and excellent service. A Five Star stay.
