Whitby surpassed my expectations, the people seemed friendly even to visitors, there was so many shops and lots of them small independent businesses with quirky and unique products not stupidly priced.
Had an amazing Thai dinner at a restaurant just inside the train station - don’t be put off by the looks on the outside.
Would visit again

This apartment is in the old quaint part of Whitby with all its little yards it doesn't look to have changed much over the years it's still an old-fashioned fishing port, but with lovely restaurants and pubs. It is my absolute favorite place on the North coast.

Lovely seaside town with a huge amount of history, culture and architecture. Please visit the James Cook statue and read up on the history of this amazing explorer and his influence.
The hotel Resolution was fabulous with a great breakfast and highly recommended.
Visit the Whitby Brewery at the top of the 199 steps and next the Abbey. Great selection of drinks and some excellent gift boxes.

Whitby is our favourite place and we visit at least 5 times a year. This was our first time at New Year and we would definitely go again. Sherlock lodgings was clean, perfect location, friendly staff, gorgeous breakfast, cannot fault anything at all.
We had not booked for an evening meal on NYE but we managed to get a table at the Thai in the Train Station, it was delicious.
Parking was easy and nowhere was too busy.

We love visiting Whitby with our two dogs.
We love visiting Whitby with our two dogs. Plenty of walks, would recommend walking to Robin Hoods Bay - we then catch the bus back. Lots of dog friendly pubs, shops etc, and lots of choice for food whether you are looking for restaurants or takeaways.

Charming.
Charming. Busy but everyone happy to be there and ok if needing to queue for something.
Fantastic fish and chips, wonderful cake shops, and takeaways all seem to deliver.
Abbey is impressive and should be visited. The Dracula story is covered well with exhibits.
Whitby Town FC if you want to watch live sport. Stand is good but can be chilly!
Whitby is somewhere you enjoy on the first visit and hope to return to sometime.
One of my favourite places - wished that I lived nearer!
Excellent Location, right on the quayside ... however Parking is an issue . (see comments below) As for the Hotel, very good room, clean, tidy and a good bed with a great view of the Harbour. The Pub below is a typical Witherspoon's good value for money but very busy ... although you are a Hotel guest that dose not guarantee you a table in the Bar ... the good news is their are lots of really good options to eat and drink in the Town ... Whitby probably has the most Fish n Chips shops i have seen in any town ... !!
We have travelled to Whitby many times, and we are often in Whitby at least twice a year. The majority of our stays have been at The Royal. It's central for everywhere ! Rooms are clean and comfortable, we paid extra for a sea-view and weren't disappointed. Spare pillows in the wardrobe, which we found useful. Breakfast is plentiful and varied, and being buffet style, you can go back for more. Yes, the hotel could do with a face-lift, but adequate for the amount of time we were in it.
The decor was splendid
Location right in the middle of old whitby
Victoria was such a lovely hostess
A hand written note with a bottle of wine awaited us upon our arrival
We had one issue that Victoria promptly looked into, bringing us two big bags of sweets plus offering a meal on her to compensate
Coffee and some basic cooking supplies in cupboard
All the comforts of home
The bedroom on the top floor had an amazing view of the sea
We booked to stay at Lobster Hall on what turned out to be the hottest day in history. There was a fan provided without being asked which was a nice touch considering how warm it was. The hotel is very well located, about 3 minutes walk from shops and restaurants and included parking. The room was compact but clean and well laid out to use the available space. Staff were friendly and helpful as well.
Great historic hotel very close to the sights in Whitby. Lovely spacious room with settee and four poster bed. Very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived early, parked the car in the hotel car park, then popped into the hotel reception to inform them. Room was already cleaned and ready, so we checked in. Great breakfast quality. Great tea & coffee facility in the room, Yorkshire Tea a real bonus.
Excellent location near to Whitby and other attractions nearby. The cafe at Ruswarp miniature railway provides delicious food! Nice open space around the property. Lovely warm shower and facilities provided (hairdryer, soap, hand lotion, cleaning supplies). Super warm and powerful shower. The welcome goodies pack was a real treat! Very nicely decorated to make for a lovely cosy stay.
We were given a room upgrade on arrival which was very nice. We had a very spacious room with views over the harbour and the Abbey. Very close to all the sights in Whitby. Free parking (October to March) available very close to the hotel. Breakfast service was prompt and efficient. Some nice decorative touches, including the aquarium in the dining area.
Room was spacious, mattress in bed was first class - want one at home. Although did not have a sea view room was great - even near reception etc we were not disturbed. Parking on forecourt or on street opposite with parking voucher supplied by hotel. Breakfast was very good! Staff very accommodating! Good location for visiting Whitby.
Spacious area, quality bed and bedding, spotlessly clean. Easy access to the apartment, parking permit for the two day stay. We've stopped all over Whitby, in a variety of hotels and apartments over the years and this is one of the best and highly recommended. Great value and location for the price.
Beautifully decorated spacious rooms. Lovely and clean bedroom and bathroom facilities. Super friendly staff who were very helpful with information and guidance regarding the best restaurants and sights in Whitby. Super delicious breakfast... highly recommended. We will be back again.
Great location albeit a bit sleep - but that's Whitby.
Lovely house with much work done to it to a very nice standard.
Nice amount of parking space.
Lovely comfortable large bedrooms and very nicely decorated.
Hot tub very nice and immaculately maintained.
Great location
Staff fantastic, restaurant great, bar great and lovely food, location excellent for views and walks to Whitby and access to Robin Hood Bay. Bus stop outside hotel, post office/news agents almost next door. Free parking at rear of hotel...
Gill was a fantastic host. The room was spacious, comfortable and snacks and drinks provided in the room were a nice little surprise. The location was ideal - only a short 10minute walk to the harbour.
The room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast well cooked and plentyful.
The hotel is in a difficult location for weekend parking but a good location to visit the town,
