There was a excellent full English breakfast with local bacon and sausage. The room had a very handy fridge which was remarkably quiet and some fresh milk was kindly provided. A big bonus was the microwave oven in the breakfast room which guests could use up to 8pm - as it turned out Workington was not over-endowed with places to eat out in the evening.

Workington was better than expected Plenty of shops and parking Flowers were blooming and very colourful on a lot of the streets It was a good place for us to stay as a base, we travelled around the coast line up to Gretna where a wedding was going on. It's one of the start points for the C2C cycle or walk...
It's one of the start points for the C2C cycle or walk routes - the others are at Whitehaven or St Bees. Both those are much nicer than Workington. I ate in the Henry Bessemer - a Wetherspoon's pub, which was good value WYSIWYG. Fairly quiet place not too much to do in workington itself. Ideal to use as base. We used wetherspoons quite alot for eating and drinking it's about a 5 minute walk away just past the bus station.

Easy access to the lake district fells and the west coast. Close to the fantastic market town of Cockermouth. Plenty choice of amazing restaurants and independent shops. Transport is very good for those who don't drive with buses into Keswick, Ambleside and Winderemere.

Staff were friendly and we had a couple of drinks in the hotel's cost bar with the equally friendly regulars. We originally intended to stay in Keswick but found it impossible to get accommodation at the time of our visit. Workington is only about 20mins drive away and proved to be a money saving alternative. Would recommend it.

As we were on our honeymoon, the front desk even offered us a huge discount on the upgrade to make our stay more special - it was an above and beyond gesture that we appreciated so much. Great service and nice amenities (pool, sauna, hot tub).
