We were in Mestia at the end of the winter season (end of March). If you want to ski relaxed and without queues in the middle of the great scenery of the Caucasus: Tetnuldi (30 to 40 minutes by car from the hotel) is an absolute insider tip!!! A smaller ski area is only 5 minutes away. Modern chairlifts, slopes well prepared......breathtaking views. A real alternative for skiing to the crowded skiresorts in the Alps!

I was thinking Mestia was just gateway for Usyuguri Village, but the fact is not. It is nice and cozy town but very convenient as I could buy basic stuff at some shops and change money. Mestia is a very beuatiful and special place in Georgia. Here you can find wonderful mountains, interesting traditions and great food. To go here it is better to choose Summer or Winter season. Winter is good for skiing, Summer is good for trekking and hiking. When in Mestia do not miss the chance to go uphill to Ushguli. These villages are UNESCO heritage and it is necessary to see it at least once. However, be informed that the road to Ushguli is really dangerous because of the stone falls and it is better not to go there when there is a bad weather, especially during the rain.

We went on car trips to Ushguli and other locations in Svaneti with Gia, the host. We absolutely loved Eteri’s cooking, which is a mix of traditional Svan, Georgian, and European dishes. The rooms were modern and clean, each with its own bathroom, hot water, clean sheets, etc. The guesthouse is located in a quiet neighbourhood several minutes walk from the centre of Mestia near where the trail to the Cross starts.

Also you could go into the kitchen any time and make yourself coffee or tea, which is great and appreciated.

We drove with a private sedan and it was fine so no need for a 4x4 but it does take a bit of time. The owners were helpful and informative and put up a bonfire for us in the evening.

The property is peaceful and appropriate to chill with a nice view on the mountains. It is located at 20min by walk from the center of Mestia, and the walk totally worth it. We took a dinner at the place, cooked by Luka’s mother and it was DELICIOUS and very generous, one of our best meal in Georgia ! I totally recommend to go there.
