Wonderful peaceful location with the most welcoming, helpful and gracious hosts, Athenia and Eva. Thank-you.
We feel very fortunate to have stayed in your comfortable and spacious studio apartment for a whole week.
The beds were oh so comfortable!
Excellent location for all the walking and exploring we did.
Lovely stony beach nearby with crystal clear waters.
We hope to return one day. It really was a little bit of heaven!
We also ate twice at Artimis restaurant and it was one of our favourite places to eat out of all the restaurants in Agia Roumeli.
Well done to this lovely family who are working hard to give those who venture to this remote and rugged place, such a wonderful time.

Lovely people, incredible service. People should come more in quiet and peaceful April.
Back-dropped by breathtaking Cretan mountains, the family run Faragi enjoys a unique location, at the peaceful seaside village of Agia Roumeli, at the end of the famous Samaria Gorge.

super friendly and warm hearted hosts, they helped me a lot with information about Samaria (as I hiked it upwards with an overnight stay and came back the next day), they kept my luggage for a night, so I could hike with small backpack, the room is super clean, the air-con quiet and bed very comfy
Thank you for the lovely stay! I can recommend the place to anyone and would love to come back one day (:

Amazing place! Probably the best in the village. Very friendly and supportive hosts. Squeeky clean room and bathroom. Delicious breakfast - the best I had during 2 weeks in Crete. Highly reccommended!
Set 400 metres from the centre and featuring a restaurant serving homemade dishes prepared with local produce, the family-run Sweet Corner Masxali offers pet-friendly accommodation, 350 metres from...

Very nice, picturesque place, friendly and helpful owners. Place is a little bit further from the village, therefore it is quiet. Sea-view from a terrace and falling asleep with a sea-sounds were amazing.

Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food facilities. Ideal vacation place with small children. Sea, walking part of Samaria Gorge (from Agia Roumeli to Samaria village and back is durable with children, just take something to eat and drink with you - there are no selling points there). You can also take a walk to Agios Pavlos or (if not afraid of climbing) take a route to the medieval castle ruines ( take less steap route, partly going through a forest - less dangerous and not so hot).
During long stay we tried more than 5 restaurants and liked Faragi and Paralia the most: good meals, friendly owners; we felt almost at home at those places.

Agia Roumeli is a small village, which mainly accommodates those who visit the Samaria Gorge. Access is either by foot from the gorge or by boat from other parts of Sfakia region.
It is definitely recommended to stay in Agia Roumeli after visiting the Gorge, as it is a quite demanding hike and some time to rest and relax is much needed.
Lots of nice restaurants and cafes to choose from. People are warm and welcoming, and the Agia Roumeli beach is also lovely.

In May, after ferries leave, a very sleepy, romantic place to be in. Next day, while travellers from Samaria arrive, a bit crowdy village :-) The atmosphere is very nice, great to experience, a great spot to stay after your Samaria walk and maybe even a bit longer!

Agia Roumeli offers activities for both sea and mountain lovers, and good, Cretan food based on local products. It should thus be considered as a destination on its own and not just a transfer area after exiting the Samaria Gorge.

Wonderful town, away from the big crowds.
Wonderful town, away from the big crowds. Crystal clear blue waters with great swimming and snorkelling possibilities. 2-3 decent restaurants, which in combination with having a small supermarket and our own kitchen was ideal for up to a week.
The town is crowded only for a few hours per day when hikers come down from the gorge. Me and my partner immediately felt at home and decided to stay one more night than planned. A lovely little gem that I’d love to visit again.

The beach has black sand, so is too hot to sit on or walk on...
The beach has black sand, so is too hot to sit on or walk on, and the water is not always clean, depending on the wind direction. Agia Roumeli serves more as an exit or entrance point to Samaria Gorge, which means that most tourists are "one-time" visitors. So related services are overpriced and of poor quality.
Which is a pity, because it is a very nice village, that could be worth staying a couple more days.
Possibly the only truly family tavern in Agia Roumeli. The best part - they got rooms!
I enjoyed a delicious meal, and a sensory experience that I dreamed of for years. The silence and calmness of the evening complemented the aromas of the fresh dishes, served near the beach, at one of their few tables, the view from the room terrace. The attention and discretion of the restaurant owner, Mr. Nectarios, who offered me as a gift two small bottles - one with olive oil and one with brandy. Thank you very much!
We loved staying at Faragi! The room was very clean and the beds are comfy. The owners are wonderful people and they spoiled our daughter and us with their local produce and hospitality. I recommend trying the Dakos and their fish which is fresh. We were there for 4 nights and hope to return soon!
If you are coming from Samaria gorge, this is the place to stay for the night and enjoy a quiet evening after the boats have left. Nectariu and Ioana (she is Romanian) will take good care of you!
First of all it has the perfect location, it is only a few steps away from the beach and the boat. The rooms were spotless, really clean, beautiful, with a view to the sea and also had everything you will need for a few days. The staff were really polite, friendly and eager to help with every question. Also a good breakfast to start your day (don't forget to taste the sfakiani pie and the aple pie). If you visit Agia Roumeli stay in Calypso.
My dad and I spent a week travelling around Crete and this was the best place we stayed. The host was super friendly and made us feel so welcome. The accommodation was perfect for us to relax in between adventures and we especially liked having coffee on the balcony overlooking the sea. Agia Roumeli is a very cute town surrounded by stunning scenery and has some beautiful walks. Can't recommend this place enough!
Great value for money. Genuine, warm family-run business. Mama has a great sense of humour. Rambo the dog! Tremendous balcony overlooking juniper shaded terrace/restaurant below and panorama of sea and coast beyond. Free beach bed and brolly. Great idea to stay here for the night after walking the Samaria Gorge and head on around the coast by ferry the next day.
This hotel is a bit further out than the other properties. That means it’s much quieter and you have a beautiful view of the cliffs and the sea, and at night, the stars are crystal clear. The actual room furnishings are mostly the basics, but the owners’ kindness makes up for it. As a solo female traveler, I really felt safe and enjoyed my stay.
Joseph as a host was amazing. Friendly, gave us really good advice for our next trip.
The view from the room was simply the best. Right at the beach, with a view of a nearby port. It was spacious with a big balcony with a place to hang your wet clothes from the beach. And there are two nearby!
It was a steak for this price. Love it!
The staff, Sofia, George and Filio were so welcoming, attentive and accommodating. Just lovely people and we will return when we go back to Crete. Location and area are stunning. Free use of the water bikes and kayaks were also awesome and they even offered to let me borrow a fishing rod and snorkels. Went out of their way.
One great thing about the Agia Roumeli Hotel is that it is steps away from a great beach and also is not far from the Samaria Gorge for those who want to hike it. The hotel also provides a great breakfast. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel also is within walking distance of several good restaurants.
Our room was spacious, clean and with a stunning view of the Libyan sea. Like all rooms in Agia Roumeli this is a basic hotel but it has been renovated, it's right up near the beachfront, it has Air-conditioning that actually works and the owner of the property and the taverna downstairs is very warm and welcoming.
Everything was perfect - very friendly and helpful host, great room, comfy bed, seconds away from the beach, restaurants and local shops. Easy access to the hiking trails too. Most tourists are making a mistake rushing to the ferry after exiting the Samaria Gorge and not staying in.
The staff was friendly and the small village of Agia Roumeli is fantastic for a quiet stopover. It is also very convenient that the rooms have a supermarket dowstairs so you can easily buy anything that you may require for your stay.
It is always a delight to visit Tarra in Agia Roumelia, Andreas and the whole staff are very kind and helpful. The hotel is lovely, restaurant excellent, and I can warmly recommend this place for anyone!
Wonderful and cost place to stay. Great location for beach, village centre and Samaria Gorge. Friendly and very welcoming and helpful owner. I had a great time and I truly recommend.
Great location right next to the beach. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large, clean comfortable apartment. Agai Roumeli is a beautiful and quiet place to stay.
