The monasteries are lovely but the public transport (bus) to move around them is limited if you only want to visit one or two. Our time was limited so we took the 9am bus up to the main meteron monastery and walked down to Varlaam and Rossenou (St Barbara) convent. We were finished here by 12 but had to walk back to Kalambaka as there was no bus until 14:30 and we had a bus to catch for our onward journey. We walked down to Kastraki and had a quick bite and walked on to Kalambaka. It was an easy walk and took about 40 mins but this was in April so not too hot.

Kalabaka is a city with traditional houses and Meteora is very close. You can visit some of the monasteries. We went to the museum of physical history with animals and birds that lived there, which was very nice, to the mushroom museum and to the digital projection center of Meteora's history and culture. The food also was excellent.

The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal.
The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal. The Byzantine art and the historic architecture elevate the soul. I was fortunate enough to half ten minutes alone in the chapels of both the Varlaam and Holy Trinity monasteries in between the flow of tourists and found it to be peaceful and prayerful. The natural scenery of the area, including the sunsets, has no equal anywhere I have been, and watching the sun change the colors of the rocks and the monastery buildings as it set in the west was truly amazing. Kalabaka is a bit built up and a mile or two further away from the rocks. Stay in Kastraki for a really Greek village experience.

Kalambaka is an interesting small town with many restaurants, gift shops, souvenirs shops. But the main attractions are the mountaintop monasteries from the 14-15th century that seem to float as you look up.
Taking a tour is very helpful because you get the history of the area and the monasteries, and you do not have to concentrate on driving.
Don’t forget to visit the Natural History Museum and the Mushroom Museum housed together. We have such respect for mushrooms now!
The hotel is conveniently situated only a few kilometers from the "suspended in the air" monasteries atop of the spectacular rocks of Meteora.
The room had a small terrace , offering a breathtaking view of the gigantic rocks.
Inside the room, a complimentary basket of apples and a bottle of wine and mineral water in the refrigerator.
A few steps away from the hotel may be found some tavernas, offering specific Greek meals.
The breakfast had a good variation, including vegetables and fruits.
The hotel was elegantly designed, with big reception. What fascinated me so much is that my room was big with great view of the rock mountain. The location of the hotelnis near the train station, only a few minutes walk, very near in the town, restaurants. The reception even recommended a resto serving Greek cuisine. The breakfast is great. They even allow me to leave my baggage in the hotel reception after checkout since I still have time to explore the village before going back to Athens.
The hotel is very good for a few days trip to Kalambaka or to explore the Meteora. Good location, close to the bus stop and the train station. The staff is very very helpful and kind!
The breakfast is sufficient, the room is equipped beyond expectations ( free air conditioning, soap, etc).
The hotel is a very good choice for the price, it is a 2-star hotel, accordingly, the furniture is a bit old, some rooms face a side street, but the price-value ratio is excellent!
The best hotel we stayed in our 10 day trip to Greece! The people were so amazing and friendly and helpful! We loved the lady who made the breakfast (which was delicious by the way) she was so sweet and friendly we wanted to adopt her to be our yiayia! We didnt have time to use the pool but it looked so cool! Very close to the train station you have to cross the tracks to get there, or you can go around if you have big luggage. Thank you so much for everything!
The host was extremely welcoming. We arrived around 9 pm and he was waiting for us. Gave us a map and explained everything we need to know and see.
The location of the hotel is great, 5 min away from everything (on foot), and the fact that there is a parking in front it made it even better. Our room had a view towards Meteora. It was very clean, and the sheets pristine white.
I would go again.
The host was SUPER NICE, he took his time to explain not only how the house worked but also the place, the attractions around and even the treks to do. He suggested a traditional restaurant (taverna) where we had 2 dinners in a row. The best food we had during this trip in Greece.
The location is perfect to visit Meteora. There are supermarkets, bakeries and restaurant at walk distance.
Good location a short taxi ride from the train station, and a short walk to the heart of Kalabaka village. The staff were very helpful. They made arrangements for us to take a taxi to the monasteries and viewpoints of Meteora. We also were given an upgrade to a larger room with balcony and view looking up at Saint Stephens monastery. The breakfast was included and good.
The room was not so big, but it was comfortable. The bathroom had a window, which I find always good, and my room had a big terrace. Kastrakis is a wonderful town, there are many restaurants just close to the hotel and Meteora is a couple of kilometers distant. Everything you will see around here is wonderful! I have enjoyed it a lot, thank you!
I had an amazing stay at this hotel. The room with a balcony offered a breathtaking view of the Meteora mountains. The gentleman who checked me in was incredibly helpful in every aspect I needed. The breakfast was delightful. If I have the opportunity to visit Meteora again, this will definitely be my first choice.
The hotel is brand new so everything is fresh and clean. The studio was excellent for us, with two balconies featuring outstanding Meteora views. Nice elevator made it suitable for my disabled husband, as did the shower. Hot water available at all times. Nicely equipped kitchenette. Vieatsa was very helpful.
Beautiful hotel, with spacious, rich rooms, exactly as in the photos. Perfect complement to the grand and lofty setting of Meteora, and an excellent base for your stay. Well located, 15 minutes from the train station on foot, and right at the start of the hiking path up to the holy trinity monastery.
The location is set with Meteora boulders in the backdrop. walkable to Kastraki town and base of some of the rock formation. The hotel itself is very resort like; I enjoyed walking around the garden where some of the breakfast items served were harvested from. Very quaint.
What a wonderful boutique hotel. Stuff are so nice and attentive. Breakfast was excellent. Rooms are super clean and the bed was comfortable. Even the restaurant in the hotel was good. We enjoyed dinnera and breakfast in the garden which has perfected view to meteora rocks.
Absolute hotel experience! Beautiful room and premises with a great view of Meteora. We loved the hot tub, the breakfast and the big and comfortable bed. The staff was really polite and accommodating, making us feel very welcome. We will definitely visit again!
View was spectacular!!!
Nikos (night shift at reception desk) was absolutely delightful, kind and super helpful and knowledgeable. As a matter of fact, we will plan another trip to Meteora, and have already decided that we would stay at this hotel.
The location of Pyrgos Adrachti is amazing! From our balcony we had a stunning view of the Meteora. We hiked to several monasteries from the hotel. It was also easy to walk to several good restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
I liked everything about the hotel - the location was excellent - right next to the central square, and a short walk to the train station. The room was great, wi-fi was good. The breakfast option was reasonably good.
