Beautiful place with a stunning view. Host was very helpful and polite, he is also a local guide and he shared some useful information and fan facts about the area and National park. Apartment was exceptionally clean and tidy and it had everything we needed and more. The view takes your breath away, especially during sunset. I fell in love with this place and this island. Lovely seaside village where you disembark from the Dubrovnik / Korcula catamaran. It is not the cheapest place to stay but good value on bikes and food (Lito supermarket) at the end of the village heading towards the national park. Also at this end is a lovely place (Forca Coffee Grill Bar) where you can sample a very nice breakfast for reasonable cost. But don't limit your explorations to Pomena, there are many other places to visit on Mljet island and not far from Pomena :-)

Paradisiac place. Fantastic landscapes.
Paradisiac place. Fantastic landscapes. The Lakes are gorgeous. You can walk and cycle around them and swim whenever you fancy it. It is a must. Pomena is a nice little village with some great restaurants and bars. And overall, it is not overcrowded as number of accommodations is limited. Quick ferry trip from Dubrovnik. Lots of possible activities : hiking, biking (standard and electric), swimming, diving, kayak, ... Book early and go there

It’s a beautiful sea side town, and right at the entrance to the National Park Mljet. We couldn’t believe how friendly and nice locals were. We biked all around the Big Lake, and rented kayaks for the Small Lake. The Benedictine monastery on the St Mary’s island is from the 12th century, and we got there just in time for a Catholic Mass, and a lunch afterwards. It was beautiful.

It is the best place to stay on the Island as it is right next to the national park which is an absolute must. The sunset at the point was great and there was a good choice of restaurants nearby. It is so easy to see the national park from Pomena.

Pomena is a great base for exploring the national park end...
Pomena is a great base for exploring the national park end of Mljet island. We went at the start of October and although there were a fair few people arriving on boats and going to look at the lakes, once you got outside Pomena a little bit it was very quiet. On a hike of a few hours up one of the hills we passed one other group of people the whole time.
If you like getting outdoors, nature, walking, hiking, swimming and that sort of thing I'd recommend Pomena and Mljet in general. A wonderful place.
A few things to bear in mind when staying in Pomena. 1. You have to pay to visit the national park (which is the whole west side of the island). We paid £15 each for our 3 day stay and I think that's fair enough. 2. We didn't really look into it but I understand getting around the island is a bit of a challenge by bus. But we didn't find the need to anyway. 3. The restaurants aren't really geared up for vegetarians. It's mainly seafood/meat but there is a pizzeria or two.
