Breakfast is good: omelette, small pancakes, toast, jelly, coffee and tea.
We booked 3 nights but couldn't arrive on the first day. The staff was very kind to shift our booking by one day without an extra charge.

The staff were nice and helpful ... really excellent. The property has a very unique and picturesque look ... it's made to look like traditional Toraja houses and that made it a special experience. So we had a great view from the balcony (see photos). The breakfast had sufficient variety and was of acceptable quality. We also appreciated the fact that the hotel offered a free shuttle service into town since the hotel is a little far out (which makes for the nice scenery, of course ... no complaint there).
Set in Rantepao, Mama Tia Family Homestay has a garden and shared lounge. Featuring a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with an outdoor fireplace.

Just brilliant. Clean big room, nice terrace with a nice view to talk to other travellers and share stories, delicious food served by the Homestay. Highly recommend doing a tour from the Homestay too, Yansen was our guide and he was amazing. We felt we got to experience a more authentic time with him, and felt welcomed into the funeral ceremonies. He explained everything so well and always had a huge smile on his face! He English was great and he had in-depth knowledge of the traditions. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay, and it is an experience we will talk about the rest of our lives. Thank you so much!!

Rosa and Enos are very friendly and helpful hosts. Clean room and nice (shared) terras.
Walking distance to shops/ restaurants.
We booked a tour with Amos ( through Enos), a very knowledgeable, friendly guide. I would really recommend him. Enos was the driver for the tour and he is a very good chauffeur.
We also rented scooters through Enos for 100.000 IDR per scooter per day, and they were very well maintained. It is nice to drive through the area (but you might to get used to the traffic😉).
Nearby the homestay (on walking distance) there is a very nice place to have something to eat or drink; Kanaa. The food and coffee is great there and the staff very friendly.

We had such a nice stay at Purabarang, the owners are so lovely and make an effort to make you feel welcomed even when we turned up at 4am. The house is in a beaten location backing onto rice fields and we had a gorgeous view from our room. On top of all this it was so cheap and the breakfast was delicious cooked by paulus’ wife. Paulus is also a tour guide and took us to see one of the traditional funeral which was an amazing experience. We definitely recommend staying here especially if you want to learn more about the ancient traditions of people in Tana Toraja.

Rantepao is a perfect location to explore the Torajah area; Torajah is a mainly christian area on a mainly islamitic Island, with very typical ceremonies, often related to death and funerals.
We took the bus from Makassar which takes about 10 hours to get to Rantepao, but it is an interesting journey.

Amazing and outlandish culture and scenery surrounding the city. Traditional housing can even be seen within the city centre. The scenery outside Rantapao is glorious, and travel with a guide highly recommended to discover the intricacies of this very different culture, provide local employment, avoid causing offence or excessive traipsing on private/family land, and because a decent map is hard to find.
Take a day (or a few) in the city itself. It is safe and surprisingly sweet when you slow down and take it in. As in so much of Sulawesi, people are gentle, honest and kind.

Perfect place to stay (better a bit out of the city center)...
Perfect place to stay (better a bit out of the city center) to enjoy nature and explore the area of Toraja. The city itself not much to do except some good restaurants but a great starting point for excursions in the Toraja region.
loved everything about this place - it is not fancy, but it is very clean and the Hostess is fantastic. we arrived late and she made dinner for us when we got there. The traditional meal she cooked the next day was also great, chicken in bamboo. There is a full bathroom outside the house with a hot water shower, western toilet and two sinks - very clean. The traditional house would not be able to accommodate a bathroom in the building itself. This is an experience to stay in real Toraja house - it is not a fancy hotel - but it is great!!
Staying in a tongkonan is a once in a lifetime experience, Aldi and his family do their best to make sure you have a pleasant stay in their homestay, i had a good time. This special place is not far from Rantepao, but in the countryside, so the atmophere is quiet and relaxed, i even had the chance to have real indonesian/toraja dinner and breakfast with them. You can also have a glimpse of real toraja life when they show you how they feed their animals or collect the local beverage from the trees.
Probably the best place and experience we've ever had. It's a bit more expensive than your regular accommodation but if you can spend an extra 10 euros a night come here, it's so so worth it. If you've been traveling for a while in SE Asia this will feel like a 5 star hotel. The host is so accommodating, her tour was incredible and the food is the best we've had in Indonesia. Hope some day we can come back here.
The homestay is located in the center of Rantepao. The host family is very nice and welcoming. The rooms are simple, but big and very clean. It's great value for money and the family will make your stay very pleasant.
Daude is an experienced and highly recommended guide. We did a one day "cultural-tour" with him and it was a great experience. We saw and learned a lot about the Torajan culture.
The place Is a small paradise! ITS a little bit far from Rantepao but so quite and beautiful, the owners can rent you a motorcycle if you want. They Will take you and drop you off from the bus if you need. The family Is sooo nice that my children almost cry when we separate on our last day.
Thank you for your hospitality and care❤️
I really hope someday we meet again. We send kisses to Mateo❤️
Riana and her family were simply the best hosts I’ve met! I was there with my 3 months old baby girl. Her husband Mr. Daud offered a great 3 day tour for a very reasonable price. Anything we needed, they were there for us. Mr. Daud also took us to the bus station by car. If I ever come back to Rantepao, I’ll stay here and will recommend further.
SARAH, the owner, is amazing. If you stay anywhere else in Rantepao you have dropped the ball.
I real homestay and felt like party of the FAM.
Especially, making dinner with CHEF Melissa. I got the Sambal recipe I have been looking for!
There is a reason the Lonely Planet highlights the Castle for Toraja! Don’t stay anywhere else!!!!
We've stayed in so many homestays and hostel in Ranterpao and this is the best one. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The room is very clean, large and comfortable. Clean bathroom with very hot shower (very rare in Rantepao). Nice kitchen with free banana and water. The location is perfect. Can't recommend this place enough.
Immanuel & Melvin were super friendly and helped us with transfer from makassar to rantepao. When we arrived late at the evening, they made us food for dinner and helped us finding a torajean guide for the funeral and a hiking trip.
Besides we can recommend the breakfast with the tasty pancakes, fresh fruits and juice.
The family was very kind and Yansen was great guide. Yansen showed us all the interesting places around Rantepao and shared his personal knowledge and experiences about the culture which was super interesting. The food in homestay was the best food I have had in Indonesia. The location was peaceful and beautiful.
We enjoyed so much our time in Rura Raya, room was very clean with nice large windows that you can open and stay on the balcony with a view on Torajan houses in the garden. Diner and breakfast was amazing, very fresh and fulfilling. It was definitely our best stay and food around Rantepao.
The hotel is built in a typical regional style and is surrounded by rice fields with views of hills and mountains. A well-kept garden, pool and restaurant combine beautifully with the main building. The rooms are very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Pak Yuli was very helpful and had taken care of us very well
it was like we were staying at home
his guidance for the local visits and weather updates were very helpful
language was never an issue
I would recommend this Hotel to other friends and others on booking.com
