Above picture is of another property on site. We (myself and friend) booked a 2 bedroomed house. A bigger more luxurious option. Ciaran (a talented builder, gent and regaler extraordinaire, could NOT have made us feel more welcome. His wife Caroline was away for our arrival but joined us for a equally warm welcome on the following evening. Comfort of a very high standard, beautiful walk on our doorstep, the gorgeous Portmagee within a 5 minute drive. The spectacular scenery and people of this gem in
Portmagee (Irish: An Caladh, meaning "the ferry")[2] is a village in County Kerry, Ireland. The village is located on the Iveragh peninsula south of Valentia Island, and is known locally as 'the ferry', in reference to its purpose as a crossing point to the island. Access to Valentia Island is now via the Maurice O'Neill Memorial Bridge (R565 road) from Portmagee, which was built in 1970 and named in memory of a member of the IRA executed in 1942 for his part in the shooting dead of Detective George Mordaunt in Dublin.[3][4]
Overlooking Portmagee’s busy harbour, The Moorings Guesthouse is just a 30-second walk from the pier, offering elegant rooms with marble bathrooms.

The Moorings is right in town of Portmagee harbor. Accessible to all the highlights of Skellig. The rooms are over the pub but you do not hear the pub noise. The hosts are knowledgeable and helpful.
A small fishing village with beautiful scenery nearby.
A small fishing village with beautiful scenery nearby. Parking could be an issue in hi-season, There are scenic boat trips around the islands and can be booked at the hotel. Off-season is quieter but no live music.

Easy access to tourist options.
Easy access to tourist options. Cliffs of Kerry are on private property on the outskirts of Portmagee and entry cost was 5 Euros per person - good views and a bit of a climb from the car park.
The Skellings chocolate shop was great. You can try many samples of different types of chocolate before buying.
Many people travel to Portmagee for the 45 minute boat trip (one way) and landing on Skellig Michael. Landing is weather dependant - and not guaranteed. Puffins are adorable and plentiful. Guide at top of the steep 600+ steps climb up to the beehive huts was informative. Toilet facilities only at the arrival point to the island.
Brayhead Tower is over the bridge on Valentia Island with fabulous views out to sea towards the Skelligs and cliffs of Kerry. Car park is paid by a 2 Euro coin only. It is a LONG walk to the tower.
Tetrapod trackway is free, difficult to see the tracks but fabulous views. The slate works are close to the Tetrapod trackway but visitor information is limited.
We ate both nights outside at "The Fishermans Bar & restaurant" in Portmagee. Service is good and friendly. They serve fresh fish caught that day and it was delicious.
The smalll supermarket is not well stocked with pre-filled rolls/sandwiches and appears to have limited supplies - suggest you shop at Cahersiveen or Sneem if you are self catering.

Had a fabulous trip to Portmagee.
Had a fabulous trip to Portmagee. The accommodation was brilliant, everyone was comfortable and the Liz the owner was very helpful.
The Royal Hotel on Valentia has beautiful food.
The Fisherman in Portmagee do the some of the best seafood I've ever had.
Kids loved the beaches.
Went kayaking off Valentia also in Kingstown, very enjoyable and affordable.
An exceptional place, perfect location and a perfect view.
The house is nicely renovated with a separate area for the guests. We had the room with sea-view which made the stay even better. Quiet place, close to Portmagee for our trip to Skellig.
Clean rooms, hosts which helped with our questions (we even could get a charger for our Canon camera which we forgot at home - a one out of a million luck chance!! :-) ). Nice breakfast options in the dining area of the hosts - with view to the sea.
I can only fully recomend.
The studio apartment was very comfortable and the kitchenette was well equipped. The location was ideal for access to Portmagee harbour and excellent local restaurants. The new outdoor hot tub and infrared sauna was the icing on the cake, a truly wonderful experience!! The surrounding area is beautiful with the spectacular Kerry cliffs, scenic walks around Valentia Island and of course Skellig Michael. Our host Paula was most helpful and friendly and ensured we had a most pleasant stay.
The location is perfect for the Ring of Kerry tour. Gerard is friendly and all the essential facilities were supplied. He showed his friendly support, introduced the tourisms, and helped us to book table in the restaurant. House is located in a convenient area which made the shop, pubs, restaurants are in working distance. Also, you can easily reach Valentia Island. We had a comfortable rest and enjoyed the rest of our tour after.
The Ferry Boat is in a great location in the small town of Portmagee. The bed was very comfortable and there were tea and coffee facilities in the bedroom. The shower pressure was amazing, and there was shampoo and bodywash in the shower for guest use. There was also a basin in the bedroom which was handy. It was easy to access the property through a lockbox and the communication from the hosts was easy to follow.
The location is brilliant as you can go anywhere on the ring of Kerry quickly as well as access to Skellig Islands via Portmagee. Caroline is brilliant and ensures you have everything you need. It is also very clean, and the beds are really comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped which is great if you are staying in to cook or for making lunches on the travel days. I would definitely recommend staying here!
A beautiful cottage in Portmagee facing the waterfront! Paula is a wonderful and warm host who runs a great place and offers amazing value for money: a comfortable and clean room with all essentials along with a great location with Kerry Cliffs, Valentia Island, Kerry Dark Sky Reserve all close by. P.S There is a Jacuzzi on the property! Highly Recommended :)
Such a lovely house, in a truly excellent location! Portmagee is an ideal base for exploring Valencia, the Skellig Ring and the wider Ring of Kerry. The house was very spacious with a lovely outside area and just a stones throw from two gorgeous bars/restaurants. Ger was a lovely host with loads of local information for us. We would love to come back!
Very clean and tidy! Lovely B&B; comfortably appointed with great on-site parking. Quiet, close to the little village of Portmagee with several nice dining options. Included breakfast was simple, but just what was needed to start the day. Arrived late in the day and it was very windy and rainy, so we sadly didn't get to see the Cliffs of Kerry.
The location was convenient. Our host was attentive to our needs.
Best drinking water in Ireland; also best shower. They have a 22:00 noise curfew which we found refreshing.
There was Coffee and Tea in the room and a small table with nice chairs and a refrigerator in the hall where we could keep a few items.
The place is beautiful and has private bathrooms in the room. Breakfast was amazing and you can’t beat the view! The owners are the nicest I have met and were so accommodating and kind. I have raved about this place to my family as a place to stay if they are in the Ring of Kerry or going to Skellig Michael.
The owners were so sweet and welcoming. The property was really pretty and well maintained. I loved the fact they had animals and literally farm fresh eggs for breakfast. The room was large, and the shower was the largest I have seen in Ireland. Our stay was comfortable and relaxing.
Beautiful area-watched a glorious sunrise with sheep 🐑 bleating in the background! Exactly what I wanted to see. Located very close to Cliffs of Kerry and Portmagee-the launch point for our visit to Skellig Michael. It was a highlight of our 10 day visit.
Excellent location for portmagee and surrounding areas. Literally a few hundred metres from local pubs.
Very tasty breakfast, cooked fresh and to order. Tina was happy to arrange our breakfast time to suit our early departure also.
Andy was very accommodating to us, waiting for us to arrive even though we arrived around 9-10pm. We chose this accommodation because it’s near to Portmagee Pier, for our adventure to Skellig Michael. I hope we stayed there longer.
It was a nice quiet location not far from Portmagee with cows and the sea for a view from the jacuzzi. Paula was very kind and welcoming. Gave us good options for food in town. The apartment was spacious and homey.
Our room was spectacular. Three windows looked out on the harbor and the island just beyond it. The decor was the nicest of the hotels we’ve stayed in on this trip. It was spacious and comfortable.
The location was walking distance to Portmagee and an easy drive to many hiking trails. the house was clean and comfortable and Tina was an amazing host.
