Please people be careful when visiting Golden Temple. I was standing in que to go inside ..the que was 3 hour wait! But worst experience was that we got pushed from behind forcefully! It's Heaven On Earth the main Darbaar Sahib,its a holy prayer place of Punjabi Sikhs ,It's Clean n operating very well ,Guarded by Singhs of Guru g.A races visit n its everyday full occupied by multi races from all over the world .It's easy to reach,Vegetarian food ,budget acomodation n easy cabs available ,it's safe to travel to the shrine that called Golden temple by many.

The city is filled with tricksters everywhere. Right from auto guys to shopkeepers, everyone will cheat you if you are not careful. Bargain well for everything ! Don't miss the 700 yrs old durgiana temple which is a smaller replica of the Golden temple ! Malls are far away and the main area around the Golden temple is chaotic, dusty and ancient !

Amritsar is a significant place in the history of India and I was very pleased to finally visit there and visit the Golden Temple, Jallianwallah Bagh and the Partition Museum to gain an understanding of the complex history of the time around Independence. As a foreigner born in one of the 'colonies' understanding history is important for locating ourselves in chains of events that impact later generations. I am deeply moved by the tragedy of the Partition and the untold and unimaginable loss. It is important that we acknowledge the past as it shapes our ability to move forward.

My friend is Indian so it was good to have a translator. Otherwise there's always an app. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble. An easy 5 minute walk from the railway station down a quiet side ally. And I've never seen so much wardrobe space in a hotel room. Nice to be able to put everything away. I would stay there again if I return to Amritsar.
