Beautiful place but crowded all year round due to its popularity. Wonderful for people who are devotee of mother vaishnavdevi. Very well connected with train services. However be careful of the local beggers. They are a big nuisance in the town.

The long way up to the cave is not that easy but part of the the pelgrimage and memorable. I did start early in the morning at 6am. It was a very quiet and nice walk and no waiting line to enter the cave. When you start later it will be very busy on the road.
Registration office at main market to get your permit is open from 5 am to 10 pm. From there it is 2 km walk to the gate to start your pelgrimage. It is open 24 hours a day.
Up and down the mountain is about 24 km in total. There are lots of restaurants, toilets etc. On the way. You also can go on horse our stretcher with fixed prices.
As a foreigner i needed to show my passport but I was allowed to go.

Katra is a small town from where you start the Vaishno Devi...
Katra is a small town from where you start the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. There are a couple of temples nearby and it is a quiet location. One should always book a train for Katra station only if planning for Vaishno devi. The other two stations are very far from Katra. The main market is good. Hotels are cheap and you won't find many options for food as it's a vegetarian city and the cuisine options are limited.

The vegeterian city of Katra was a pleasent surprise .
The vegeterian city of Katra was a pleasent surprise . Being at the moutain base with all good & required facilities, in addittion to Taxi service to connect to Jammu etc ...it is a cool place to chill out for a few days. Autos shall be monitored for prices. They are too costly.
The Vasihnav dhaba and Hot milk and pakoras in the main market in the weather of 10 degrees was enjoyable . We enjoyed the CHole lulcha from a cycle wala vendor also.
We booked through booking.com. once we reached the hotel. They sent us to another hotel saying that it's also their property. We were disappointed this never happened whenever we booked through booking.com. I cannot give you any good reviews about katra grand hotel.
It's not on the main road. It's in a very small lane. Where only one car can enter. If you need transportation you have to walk 5 mins to the main road.
The hotel is neat and clean and they follow vivid protocols , was a nice stay here , rooms are spacious and have all basic amenities , it’s newly built property and well located , the food is reAsonably priced . The rooms are clean and owner himself pays attention to each and everything . They allowed us early check in without any extra charge 😀 must stay , I will stay in this property whenever I visit katra again .
The staff and their hospitality was commendable. Everyone was nice and helpful. Nikhil Thakur was very kind and made sure we have a comfortable stay in Jammu. Other staff members like Rahul,Rohit,Deepak,Sachin,Aakash and the receptionist Batti was very helpful.
I would recommend anyone who is visiting Jammu for Mata darshan to stay here. The hotel is beautiful and food is very nice.
I booked the triple room for my parents and myself and the room was of great size and the beds very comfy. Bathroom was clean and the staff were very courteous. Location was close to the Katra market and close to many shops for eating and shopping. We ordered food couple of times at the hotel room and it was quite delicious too.
The hotel's proximity to the railway station is unbeatable, making it incredibly convenient for travelers. Additionally, I was impressed by the cleanliness standards maintained throughout the premises. The rooms were spotless, and the common areas were well-maintained. Overall, a comfortable and hygienic stay.
They are biggest fraud. They will ask for advance payment for booking and once payment done then after some day hotel staff is saying that they haven’t received any payment .
And they will not give you checkin . Please don’t book this hotel they are biggest fraud from hotel end .
I had a wonderful experience at the (Hotel Pranav, Katra). Every staff member I encountered, from the valet to the check- in to the cleaning staff were delightful and eager to help! Thank you! Will recommend to my colleagues!
This is the perfect hotel for a weekend getaway in (Katra). The downtown area on Main Street is a best kept secret and the (Vishal Hotel, Katra) offers everything you need if you don’t feel like venturing out.
The owner of the hotel was good. He assisted us in the little things which we asked him. We booked a family room which was quite spacious. The wifi facility worked as a boon as no prepaid card works in Katra.
the hotel room were super super dirty, poor maintained, bad hygiene. waste of money and time. would never ever visit ginger katra again.
every nook and corner of the hotel room was dirty
The location of the hotel is really good as its in centre of Katra, market at walking distance, good food in restraunt - home like taste and the staff is really helpful
