SPOT ON Ambika Residency is located in Kollūru. Both free WiFi and parking on-site are available at the apartment free of charge. The accommodation provides a lift and a shared kitchen for guests.
No need to wait for direct bus from Mangaluru. You can catch first bus to Udupi from the Kolluru bus. It will take about 3 hours plus timing. Plenty of accommodation available at walking distance for season times better book before you go. Souparnika is neat and clean now. Kolluru always attracted me for the peace atmosphere. Compared to earlier visit, Food quality improved all around. Darshan also comfortable now, swamis guide properly. Unlike many temples there is no greedy shown in and around the temple that is great relief.

Most serene temple town hill station.
Most serene temple town hill station.
Our trip was intended just for getting darshan at the Kollur Mookambika Devi Temple and we got much more than that.
However nobody should plan a kollur trip without including time for kudajadri treck. Kudajadri the abode of Mahadev where shankaracharya attained njanapita ( epitome of knowledge) is a breathtaking experience.

Kollur Mookambika Temple is located at Kollur, Udupi...
Kollur Mookambika Temple is located at Kollur, Udupi District in the state of Karnataka, India. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to the mother Goddess known as Mookambika Devi.It is situated in the foothills of Kudajadri hills, on the southern bank of Souparnika River. Being situated in the land between Gokarna and Kanyakumari, believed to be created by sage Parashurama, it finds a spot in the 108 Durga Temples in the ancient Kerala. The temple is also one among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala, since Lord Shiva is also considered to be present in the temple. The main deity of the temple is a swayambhu (self-born) jyotirlinga with a golden line cutting it into half, in which the left half represents Tridevis, and the right half represents Trimurtis. Along with this, a four-handed panchaloha idol of Goddess Mookambika is also installed. Though located in Karnataka, most of the devotees here come from Kerala, since the deity here is believed to have strong bonding with Keralites. Ratholsava in the month of Phalguna and Navaratri in the month of Ashwina are the main festivals in this temple.
It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya had a vision of Sri Mookambika Devi and installed the deity here. One day Devi appeared before Adi Shankaracharya asking for his wish. He revealed his wish to install the Devi idol in a place in Kerala to worship. Devi agreed but put forward a condition that she will follow Shankara and he should not look back till he reaches his destination. But to test Shankara, Devi deliberately stopped the noise of her anklets when they reached Kollur whereupon Shankara turned and looked back because of doubt. Devi then asked Shankara to install her vigraha at that very location at Kollur. The original temple where Shankara meditated and Devi appeared before him is at Kodachadri peak (1343 mt) which is at a distance of about 21 kms from Kollur, also visible as a large mountain peak from Kollur Shri Mookambika Devi Temple
