Probably one of the best hotels in Kumbakonam! I had a lovely stay here. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff at this hotel were extremely helpful and courteous. A special thank to Rajesh for helping me set up the itinerary and driver for a tour of nearby temples. The location of this place was also perfect, right in front of the small pond and Kasi Viswanathar temple. The layout and internal decoration is also quite inviting.

The area is full of temples built decades/centuries before. Had chance to visit and pray in Navagraha Temples.
There are number of small and medium size veg restaurants in and around. Food is of good quality and reasonably priced.
Most of the hotels don't have attached restaurants.
Hiring a taxi is the comfortable way of reaching out to temples within stipulated time.
Taxi fare is reasonable though not according to Govt fixed rates.

One can find hundreds of old temples around Kumbakonam and it is not possible to cover everything in a few days.
Most of the Hindus travel over here to cover Navagraha temples which are nearby. You may need one or two days to cover all along with a few main temples like Swamimalai is one of the six abodes of the Lord Karthikeyan/Muruga/Subramani.
The nearest railway station is Kumbakonam and the airport is Tiruchi.

It's a temple city ... basically, you see prominent temples everywhere.. The entrance would be on a small corner road.. but inside the temple would be huge.. In some temples, Reconstruction is going on.
If we preserve these temples in a better way they will add significant value to our culture and our tourism to flourish, but most temples are being neglected and their beauty is getting eroded.

Tamil-speaking visitors who know which temples they want to visit should be delighted by Kumakonam and its surroundings. For others... The temples are very spread out and outside the city, so hiring a car and an English-speaking guide is indispensable. And the critical mass of foreign tourists visiting there seems too small for this to be readily available as it is in places like, say, Hampi.
Just stayed a day. Courteous staff, close to Kumbakonam Railway Station and Bus stand. You can take an auto to get yourself dropped here. The hotel is in the main area and a lot of restaurants and food cart are available. With loft facility. The rooms are comfortably big. AC throw was perfect. UPI and cash transactions only. 24 hours check in and check out is a huge plus!
The atmosphere of he hotel is amazing - historical building, tradition, history, color, it is like a museum, you can take endless stroll and always come across something beautiful, astonishing. Rooms are like a palace chambers , very high ceilings, old furniture, and all set in the garden, with peacocks, ponds. It feels like a lucid dreaming
Hotel GM Balaji is super committed to provide excellent customer service. He provided us timely updates and proactively helped us to improve our travel itinerary as well. Also I noticed that other hotels are providing only sofa cum bed for the 3rd occupant which is not comfortable, where as this hotel have proper bed for all the guests.
Very convenient location if you want to stay peacefully in Kumbakonam. We stayed in tripple rooms that were mini apartments, fresh,.clean and well taken care of. Staff is very friendly and the owner/manager will take time to talk and answer all your queries. This is an ideal place for families or close friends.
Spacious comfortable room, with a plenty of light. Good bathroom. Location was very good, and the restaurant serves good thalis at lunchtime, and idlis for breakfast. Best of all, the hotel staff were very helpful, guiding, and even calling for Autos and giving them directions. It made staying there a pleasure.
Excellent place to stay and very good food with an in-house restaurant. Do not expect continental flavours, but fresh Indian cuisines are available. Nice breakfast spread is something you can look forward to. Staff were always available for quick help. Overall I recommend this place to stay.
Hotel was excellent. Room is superb, clean and very comfortable. Spacious. We book 2 rooms as travelling with family and closeby room was provided. Staff was helpful, bathroom is clean, wifi is good. Restaurant Ananda Bhavan was within the building so very helpful on foods.
When we went to the hotel they said thete is no booking. I showed the booking conformation but still they declined to allot a room.
I had a very bad experience.
The road is very busy and car can't move freely. No parking in the facility. Staffs attitude was very bad.
Please maintain this customer Service at all the days to come which will attract more and more valuable customers to our Temple City " Kumbakonam ". I will utilize your services from " Hotel Chela" during my next visit shortly.
Thanking you Sir.
There is nothing there to like in this hotel...the AC works only when you book the stay...not afterwards....no wifi in any room but advertised as auch...overall i wouldnt touch this hotel eben if its the last place on earth....Disgusting....
Found little compact. We din have a small table to sit and eat. Also if the hotel was having dining attached we wouldn't have struggled to order food from outside. Most of the restaurants near by did not taste good..
Rishi the caretaker was extremely helpful. He supported throughout and was vey kind and accommodating. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Kumbakonam.
