We had the house to ourselves! Which was absolutely unexpected but welcomed. The lobby was really cosy and the kitchen perfectly equipped. We love animals , so we felt very good on a farm. The host was really helpful! Booking app didn't send me important informations and for two days we had a problem with Booking services. The host was very kind and very helpful and made sure that we have everyhing we need. The hot tub was absolutely amazing, really hot which was great after a long day in the Icelandic weather. Thank you for your hospitality :)

Iris our host was superb - so welcoming, kind and generous. She had lived in New Zealand, our home country so we had fabulous conversations. Loved the countryside location of this family owned horse farm.
The modern design of the fully equipped kitchen was a delight to use. Only 10 minutes drive from Saudarkrokur where there is a fabulous bakery and restaurants. I highly recommend staying here.
Syðra-Skörðugil Guesthouse is perfectly located in the heart of Skagafjörður, only 5 km from nearest city Varmahlíð. The house features 5 spacious bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms are shared among the rooms....
My stay at the guesthouse was a bit of a mixed bag.
My stay at the guesthouse was a bit of a mixed bag. On the positive side, the self-check-in process was a breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised by the level of cleanliness and the spaciousness of my room. The facilities, including the WiFi and kitchen, were top-notch, and I had no complaints on that front.
However, there were a few quirks that left me feeling a bit unsure. The surrounding farm was somewhat peculiar, but I must admit that I'm not exactly an expert on farming, and I didn't book this place for its agricultural charm.
The absence of any human interaction with the host was a tad disconcerting. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, and a friendly welcome or some local insights would have been appreciated.
One noteworthy detail was the water quality, which had a distinct sulfur smell. While this might be normal for the area, it would have been helpful if the host had mentioned it beforehand.
In summary, the guesthouse had fantastic facilities, but the lack of host interaction and the peculiar farm surroundings left me with mixed feelings. Plus, a heads-up about the unique water scent would have been a considerate touch.
However, all in all, good to very good value for the money.

This small town is a good base for exploring the area, including horse riding at Icelandic Horse Tours in Helluland and a trip to Drangey Island with Drangey Tours. There is a nice exhibit on the Icelandic Civil War (ca 1230) and Iceland's oldest bakery. A short walk up to the cemetery provides a nice view.

Wonderful museum in town ( fun for kids - has virtual reality experience) More museoms in surrounding area. Many more areas to explore and activities to partake in. Excellent tourist information staff in Varmahid.
When we first arrived we thought we had made a mistake booking this hotel but then we realised just how much character this 1880 built building had. The Staff were lovely. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The natural hot tub was hot and bathrobes were provided to wear from your room to the tub. We were given complimentary tea and coffee in the reception area. The breakfast room downstairs was an Aladin's cave of historic articles. The continental style breakfast was excellent.
The whole place was really nice! They've just finished refurbishing the common area and it looks like some 5 star hotels! The entrance was not entirely finished, but they were putting a lot of work and effort into it.
We were the only guests the night we stayed, and it was great!
We were allowed to use the hot tub too, which is outside, and provides an overview of the amazing valley the guesthouse is in.
It is a farm too, and you can see horses and some other animals!
This is an elegant version of an Icelandic guesthouse, with a beautiful common area for meals. The beds are very comfy. There's a small kitchen with almost everything you might need to make meals. The host was very helpful when we ran into a problem - she went out of her way to solve our problem and we really appreciated that. The room was quiet and pretty comfortable. Breakfast was very nice - plenty of food and a variety of choices.
Upon check-in, we were offered the opportunity to upgrade to a room at the Tindastool Hotel & we took it. The keystone in the fireplace downstairs in the dining area says it was built in 1820 & the owners have exerted a huge effort to provide modern comfort (plumbing, electricity, wifi) and safety (sprinklers, smoke detectors). Our room was clean, cozy & comfy, the beds & comforters were excellent. We had no complaints with our stay!
Love the classical European style of the hotel. The decorations make it really vibey. The wifi is strong, and the room offers the most comprehensive package we've seen in all Iceland hotels we've seen. There's body lotion, tea bags, tissue paper, a big trashcan, a big table (though broken), and a big TV. The reception and the dining area are very cozy, and there's also a hot bath outside.
This was our favorite place we stayed in Iceland. We got the best sleep ever - it was summer and the room had blackout curtains, which isn't a given in every guesthouse. The kitchen was really special too - they left out some baked bread and farm-fresh eggs for us to eat in the morning. The whole place was really cosy and the views into the fjord are amazing when the clouds clear away.
One of the best guest house we've stayed in all of Iceland! Very spacious living room, kitchen, bathroom, comfy beds. A full house that felt modern and well maintained, didn't feel cheap at all. Just next to the very nice owners' farm.
Excellent remote location next to the sea with clear view on the sky to watch notrhen lights if you're lucky!
Whish we could have stayed longer
We arrived in the evening after a long drive so were delighted that we could make use of the hot tub outside, it was so warm and relaxing! The hotel itself was really charming with an antiquey feel to it. We were given a huge room which was very quaint. It was very clean and comfortable and we loved the history of the place. The staff were lovely and helpful too.
We felt very welcome and enjoyed our stay. The house has a fantastic view - especially the sunsets over the mountains and the sea were breathtaking - and is not too far from Sauðárkrókur where you can have good food or take the bus. The rooms, bathroom and kitchen were all nice and clean! We‘ll definitely be coming back!!
The advertising for this place does not do it justice. this was a hidden gem for us. Check out the horse tours and get a discount on the room if you book directly through them. Very well stocked kitchen, clean property and wonderful staff. One of the best places we stayed while traveling Iceland.
Beautiful setting in the village of Holar, Iceland. So much historical significance here - too much to mention here - look it up on Google. Comfortable room, very clean, ease of checking in, good breakfast, individual router in the room so excellent wifi connection, great shower.
I would recommend this place to anyone thinking about staying in Sauðárkrókur. Perfect if you're traveling alone and probably for a couple aswell. It was really cozy and clean, definitelly worth the price, wish I could stay longer.
Nice hotel partly in a very cool old building. The room was comfortable and clean although on the smaller size. The room had some tea and coffee available. There is a decent hot pool you can use.
Very good garage apartment, good value for money. Seems pretty recently made up and had all the essentials. Good location within walking distance from everything @Sauðárkrókur.
We had both dinner and breakfast which were very good. The staff was helpful and friendly. Enjoyed the hot pool. Loved the historic nature of the hotel.
