Only stayed a couple of days could have stayed for a week. Shops in village have absolutely everything food and drink wise. Also lovey views of village and countryside from windows/balconies. Very cosy apartment for December.

Location was great and surroundings peaceful. Heating and warm water were in order, after some initial problems with the boiler, which was switched off when arriving.

This is a house that belongs to a private owner. It was quiet and very clean. The owner was very helpful and responsive. Its a good place to stay when the monastery is full. Its quite large so would be good for groups.
I would just suggest they need new pillows and to have more universal euro electric socket points as people from other European countries can't charge their phones. Also, maybe offer some milk, tea, breakfast, instructions about the area, buses etc. This town is in the middle of nowhere and has no restaurants, no supermarket, atm or taxis. Book your trip will in advance because there is no transport between the town and the monastery and a bus out only 3x a day. The monastery hosts 80 guests a day but the nearby town has no infrastructure for pilgrims. That's kind of hard. The owner does not speak English and no one else in town does either.
Featuring a restaurant, garden and bar, Hotel Santo Stefano offers free Wi-Fi throughout and free private parking. It is in central Pieve Santo Stefano, a 5-minute drive from the Montedoglio Lake.
Set in Caprese Michelangelo, the mediaeval home town of the famous painter and sculptor, Buca di Michelangelo offers country-style rooms. It features a garden, bar and restaurant.

The village is near La Verna sanctuary, an important site for St. Francis of Assisi. There are many walking trails because it is also a national park. I walked up to Mt. Penna which was well marked and we'll traveled. Such a beautiful trip.
