What a treat it was to stay at this lovely hotel right in the heart of Matera with such a professional team looking after us during our stay. Reception staff turned into Atlas to haul our cases up and down the cobbled stairways to our shuttle, made dinner recommendations and told us the best way to see every corner of this beautiful historical city. The most charming of breakfast waiters attended to our every need and we looked forward to and will miss our morning chats with him about the Giro and the football … such a great selection at breakfast too! last but not least the cleaning staff made sure our room was in tip top condition for the duration of our stay. Thank you all for making our trip so memorable.

Matera is a beautiful place with stunning views of the sassi and cave dwellings. There are also some interesting attractions that you can visit to gain a better understanding of how people used to live and what Matera went through before becoming a UNESCO site and the amazing place it is today. One such attraction is Casa Noha, which is a multimedia demonstration inside a historic stone house. It provides a helpful insight into the history of Matera and the struggles of cave-dwelling life. Another interesting place to visit is Casa Grotta nei Sassi di Matera, which is not just a cave-dwelling but also a living museum. You can experience what it was like to live in a cave with a straw bed, tiny kitchen, and livestock all within the confines of the cave. Chiesa Rupestre della Madonna della Croce is a church located on the other side of the Sassi. It offers great views and is definitely worth the drive from Matera.

Matera it's a southern Italian wonder.

Matera it's a southern Italian wonder. Is famous for its sassi and stunning landscapes, a city so expressive and touching is its sorrowful beauty. Matera is the Italy's magical city of stone. Archaeologically the most interesting town in Italy. Matera continues its rebirth attracting worldwide attention for its history, culture, and extraordinary architecture and terrain. Hiking, gastronomy, art and culture, photography, painting, history... all of this took us to Matera and all of this fascinated us, to the point of wanting to return one day.

We had a wonderful time at Matera.

We had a wonderful time at Matera. The people were very friendly even though the season was just about to start and alot of facilities were still closed. We had a great first of the season meal at Enoteca dai Tosi with a tour of the facility. Tasted new wine, delicious meats from the local butcher, local cheeses, and some dishes from the new menu. The town is so beautiful, that you can't take a bad picture. You must prepare for a lot of stairs and walking...have comfortable shoes... The town was even prettier at night. It was great! We wanted to stay longer and keep exploring....

A unique city with a long and interesting history.

A unique city with a long and interesting history. Parts of the old city are still being renovated. The ancient cave structures that have been transformed into modern hotels, restaurants, shops and bars are worth seeing. Tourists are not allowed to bring cars into the old city and parking outside can be tricky. Also, there are a lot of steps and uneven pavement so comfortable shoes are a must. Not very accessible for those who have mobility issues.

Staying at Corte San Pietro was a dream come true for me as I had always wanted to stay in a cave. My expectations were more than fulfilled! The rooms were extremely spacious, beautifully decorated in monochromatic earth tones, clean and comfortable. In the heart of Matera Corte San Pietro was THE place to stay. Our hosts were more than helpful, gracious and kind. The taxi service with the garage made coming and going from the hotel extremely easy. The breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. Highly recommend Corte San Pietro!

We loved our stay immensely. Our room was absolutely beautiful (we were upgraded as I think there had been a cancellation) and the staff were absolutely lovely, and we felt at home immediately. The location is first class, and having a bubble bath in a cave like room was one of the highlights of our Italy trip so far. Breakfast the next day was exceptional also. Make sure you go down to the see the historic cisterns when you have finished with breakfast. We highly recommend when in Matera!

I love this place! Matera is magical and Il Belvedere was just the icing on the cake for me. From the warm and informative reception from Simone and the kindness from Davide, to the location and the aesthetic and the ample breakfast…I really could not have asked for a more delightful stay. The views of Matera were as spectacular as shown. We stayed in a cave room with the entrance just to the side of the main patio. The rooms were fitted with the most modern amenities including ample lighting, outlets for charging devices and good HVAC system. Bathroom had a large contemporary shower panel and other fixtures. Location was also perfect as the hotel is in a quiet area but because the old city is compact it is only a 10 minute walk to the Duomo.

We love it. The place is incredibly original and beautiful. The hotel cave has been restored with taste and authenticity. All the elements exposed are beautiful. Great breakfast, nice and helpful people, beautiful vue from outside the room. Nice apéritif with good products from the area and well served by a young gentleman. Matera is one the most beautiful city in that area, and the Sextantio Le Grotte the best place to stay.

We loved everything about the hotel and Matera! Bianca at the reception gave us great restaurant recommendation and booked us a table also. It was truly the best food we had in Italy!
