Located just across the lagoon from the Venetian islands, Mestre is the mainland part of Venice and offers cheaper accommodation, with easy transport links to the historic centre. However, the city has more than just cheap hotels going for it.
Host to several festivals throughout the year, huge Parco San Giuliano offers fantastic views across the lagoon towards the Campanile and dome of St Mark’s Cathedral. Also worth a wander round is Forte Marghera, a former Austrian fortress on an island in the middle of star-shaped canals. One canal continues into the centre of the city and is lined with restaurants and bars.
Pavement cafes can also be found in Piazza Ferretto, a triangular square with a 12th-century clock tower at one end and the Teatro Toniolo at the other. This popular spot for a passegiata also has a modern fountain and several boutiques. Also good for shopping in Mestre is the Le Barche centre, a rather uninspiring building from the outside, but packed full of stores.
As for nightlife, Mestre has a number of clubs, including one at Tessera near to Venice Marco Polo Airport. Don’t fly out of there without having tried the little homemade cakes called ‘mignon’.

Mestre is a small place, there’s no Uber app so you need to go with the public transport all the time. The locals don’t speak English, get a wifi connection at the center where is the train and bus station and search for bus number that will take you close to your hotel.
It’s a nice town as long you get used with the way in and out. You can arrive around 15 mins to Venice from the city center w/ bus number 2.

I stayed in Mestre as the base to travel to Venice.
I stayed in Mestre as the base to travel to Venice. It was the best move. Avoid paying too much for the Venice hotels. Stay close to Mestre train station and you could be in Venice in 10 minutes. Enjoy the best of both worlds.

We only had a three night stay at the Hotel Delfino in Mestre
It is the perfect position for a value for money ,easy base to visit Venice from.
Unfortunately we did not have time to visit Mestre itself as our focus was always towards Venice.
Mestre is a very short journey by bus two and from the airport and stops outside the hotel which means your holiday can begin within the hour. Perfect. The supermarket was well stocked with anything you should need. With places to eat and regular buses to move around or by foot

This is the second time I have stayed in Hotel Garibaldi, it maybe a small hotel but has a huge heart! Luigi and his colleagues are so kind and helpful and show interest in how you spend your time. The No.2 bus stops right outside to take you to the centre of Venice. Hotel Garibaldi is excellent quality for a a very reasonable price, breakfast will set you up for the day. I will be back again soon!!

Mestre is close to Venice and a much cheaper alternative though you definitely miss out on the old, traditional feel of Venice (I had stayed in a hotel in Venice another time and it was wonderful there). If you eat in Mestre, it's much cheaper. We ate at 'Da Michele'. Excellent food, very good value for money. We did not have any time to explore Mestre per se, though.
Localised near the city center of Mestre, this three stars hotel offers old style rooms and breakfast and helps accommodate with the public transportation within the Venice area by selling bus tickets.
Right in front and across the street there are two bus stations wearing the same name as the hotel.
The room view was to the parking yard and to the neighbouring block, ensuring quiet over the night.
The breakfast options were limited, still containing tasty items and the staff was very helpful.
It is very close to Venice and the bus station is literally in front of the hotel. However it is not very easy to go to Mestre station. There are not so many lines going there and the schedule is not reliable. The room was very clean but super basic. Instead of instant coffee, you expect proper coffee or coffee machine in the room given it is a 4 star hotel. There is also no slippers or any toiletries in the room. Breakfast was good enough and the personnel was kind and helpful.
Perfect place for rail travelers. Directly across the street the street from the Venezia Mestre rail station, meaning day trips to Venice take only 10 minutes and connections on Italian Rail trains could not be easier. I don't find Mestre to be a very attractive town, but if proximity to trains and minimal nuisance with carrying luggage is the objective the hotel is great. Also, a quicker and cheaper cab ride to the Venice airport than from Venice itself.
Hotel Guidi is a great place to stay in Mestre providing all the necessary amenities and comfort one could ask for. The hotel staff is extremely kind and helpful, and the rooms are comfortable and perfectly clean.
The bus and tram stations linking Mestre to Venice city centre are right next to the hotel, making it perfect for anyone wanting to explore Venice while staying in an affordable accommodation. Couldn't recommend it more!
The price is the best,
Hotel stuff was very nice and helpful,
Hotel is new and clean,
You can take bus n2 from Mestre Main station to get to the Hotel, but N2 is not going straight there you should walk 800m which was ok for us, or you can take another bus, to go next to the hotel,
There is a big Lidl supermarket very close to the Hotel, which was comfortable,
It is very easy and fast to get to Venice from here, take bus N 2
It's localized near the old town of Mestre, which is a nice spot. You can get a bus to Venice from the hotel's doorstep. The AC was available, but was hidden behind curtains, so it was hard to find, and didn't provide flow until we 'fixed' it.
The breakfast was ok. The hotel is inside ZTL so pay attention to that. (public) Parking space was available in front of the hotel.
The hotel is just across the street from the Mestre train station and even though the train station was super busy, the area around the hotel did not seem busy at all. The hotel has a parking area, which is not accessible from the street so we felt safe leaving our car there. The rooms were not big but they were clean. We had a great stay for a weekend in Venice.
This is a good hotel to stay for your visit to Venice. It only takes 5 minutes to walk to Venezia Mestre station 10 minutes to take the train to Venezia S.L. The hotel is clean and the shower is modern with a nice stream of water. The bed is O.K., maybe a little bit hard but not in a bad way. Breakfast was as you would expect, nothing spectacular but good.
The hotel is very well-located. The center of Mestre is just a short walk away and the bus to the historical center of Venice is literally in front of the hotel. You can also get bus or day tickets right at the reception. Rooms are very basic and could use some updating but they will do.
The hotel has great location near to bus station to Venice, but also near to centre of Mestre, which is also worthy to see.
Rooms are cleaned every day, we'll maintained, I did not miss anything there. The balcony doors are perfectly soundproof.
Stuff is super nice and very helpful.
The hotel does have real 24 hours reception desk - in Italy a lot of hotels write that, but they don't have it and you should call them to come.
It was clean, the staff were nice and helpful. It was easy to get to Venice with a bus very close to the hotel.
Very good location (about 5 min walk to Venezia Mestre where you can take train to Venice). Room is clean and staff is helpful and willing to answer your questions. Also, you can park your car in their place.
Great hospitality, great location very close to Mestre Center and very easy with public transports from / to Venezia and Marco Polo Airport. Will definitely pick this one again on our next visit to Venice
The location is really good. It’s about 2mins walk from the Venezia Mestre station. It’s really easy to get into the bus to Venice. The accommodation is not noisy as said in those other comments.
Room size is enough. The hotel is very near the train station (Venice Mestre) and the bus station (going to Venice). Clerk Elizabeth helped us get the card for the public transportation
The breakfast is pretty much OK. The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from the tram to Venice, and several buses that stops nearby that goes to the airport and the Mestre train station.
Very clean. Staff was incredibly helpful and very friendly. Location across from Venice Mestre was excellent considering we had luggage to lug. Best breakfast we’ve had in Italy.
