It is a small but beautiful etrurian and medieval city sourrounded by cliffs. Worth to wander along the pebbled roads and have a meal in any of the restaurants. Beautiful romanesque cathedral.
Parking lots located outside the city with elevators to enable easy access to the city.

Orvieto shouldn't be missed on a trip to Umbria.
Orvieto shouldn't be missed on a trip to Umbria. It's quite a beautiful town.
I'd like to apologize to the host 'Enzo' for my initial review. I was in a grumpy (tired) mood and he did try his best to accomodate us with his suggestions. I liked his secure parking. Thank you, Vincenzo. Visiting the town was easy to do. We ate at 'Il Mercato'; excellent food and service. The Duomo is unreal. Gorgeous facade.

The stupendous Duomo of Orvieto is on top of the list of...
The stupendous Duomo of Orvieto is on top of the list of places to visit. The cathedral commemorates the Miracle of the Eucharist in Bolsena-droplets of blood that stained the altar linen, made some time in the1260’s. According to the Bradt Guide for Italy, Umbria & The Marche regions, “A Bohemian priest named Peter, was on his way to Rome, was asked to celebrate mass in Bolsena, just to the south. Father Peter had long been skeptical about the doctrine of the Host becoming the body of Christ during the mass, but the Host itself answered his doubts by dripping blood on the altar linen. Peter took the linen to the Pope (Urban IV) and he declared it a miracle and instituted the Feast of Corpus Christi. Pope Urban IV promised Orvieto (rather unfairly to Bolsena) a magnificent new cathedral. “
The exterior façade of this gothic cathedral, has mosaics depicting the life of Christ, the Virgin Mary, etc. with stunning gold backgrounds, that glow in the afternoon sun. The interior has cycles of frescos throughout, painted Fra Angelico, Luca Signorelli, Perugino, Piero della Francesca, to name a few.
The other most remarkable attraction in Orvieto is the Viaggio nella “Città Sotterranea”, the Orvieto Underground tours. We took an fascinating, evening tour given in English by a local guide. Tours can be booked through an office near to the cathedral in Piazza Duomo. As the brochure notes “Orvieto Underground is the best way to become acquainted with this new, unusual aspect of a culture of a city that abounds in history and outstanding art treasures. The tour takes you along a winding subterranean path through tunnels, stairs, unexpected passageways, superimposed rooms, with innumerable small square niches, all of which bear witness to creation over the centuries of this “city underground”.

People who just do a day trip from Rome miss out on exploring the romantic little town and really getting a feeling for the history of it.
3 - 4 days is jsut right if you want to walk around the entire town once and do all the sightseeing and relax at the same time.
You will laugh, but my fridge was outside between my window and shutters, I had breakfast at my window and grabbed pizza as take away in town. I have got a fear to get lost in big cities - so Orvieto is perfect - you just stroll around everywhere and when you want to get hoem you ask : " Duomo ? " and peopl;e point you in the right direction. :)
The well is super interesting, the dome was great, the Etruscan museum and walking around the bottom of the town.

The hostess where i stayed is wonderful.
The hostess where i stayed is wonderful. She gave me restaurant tips. I went to two restaurants and cafes too. They were all good.
Orvieto is wonderful to walk around with beautiful scenery, interesting history and great shops. Top quality beautiful goods. Leather and ceramics and clothing all top quality. A magical experience awaits at one shop with armour outside.
The whole town is a photographers dream and the views of the surrounding countryside are amazing. Especially from the clock tower. Beautiful walks along well kept paths overlooking the countryside.
The Duomo is stunning and there are many galleries, museums and historic places to visit. Easy to walk around. A funicular ride up is special.
The underground tour is so interesting.

Orvieto is a beautiful city.
Orvieto is a beautiful city. It stands out by its friendly services all around. They just welcome visitors more than other cities. Also free wifi the entire city centre. In the winter months, it's magical. I love sitting in Piazza del Popolo during the summer months - it really transported me back into how I come to know of Italy in films. I will go back over and over again for retreats.
The location is a bit hard to find but once you know, you know. Just a 5 mins walk to Duomo, and 3 mins to the centre. There is a supermarket nearby which is handy. I visit Orvieto regularly so I am looking for a retreat rather than a hotel. Situated in a quiet neighbourhood. The apartment has modern features and all amenities are in place. I love it when I can cook easily without fuss. It's exactly what I need. The apartment is bigger than I expected so there is plenty of space to lounge. In fact, there is a lounge sofa!
The grounds are lovely! Even though the pool was too cold for more than soaking our feet in, it was so relaxing to hang out on the chaise lounges in the garden. The breakfast was probably the best from our entire 3+-week trip in Italy. It was so nice to have eggs (there was a cheese omelet to share) in addition to the breads, tarts, pastries, yogurt, and fruit! Taxis were hard to come by, so we were grateful to be given a ride to the train station by the owner's daughter. That was truly going above-and beyond!
If you ever have the chance to stay in this apartment, DO! There is nothing not to love ... imagine overlooking the magnificent Orvieto Duomo from the windows of your spacious, elegant 'home', or waking up to see the surrounding piazza slowly come to life. There's a large comfortable living/dining room with another big table in the kitchen at the back, where we tended to gather (access to the coffee pot making up for a less dramatic view!). The location is also great for easy access to the whole town.
After our one night stay we were a little disappointed we had to leave the next day to travel to our next destination.
Orvieto is a beautiful older town overlooking the surrounding valley and hills. Hotel Corso was a well maintained and exceptionally clean family style hotel in a terrific location with easy parking nearby. Welcoming, friendly staff ensured we had everything we needed, including a full continental breakfast. 10 out of 10 for us.
The location was perfect to explore the area around Orvieto. We hired electric bikes and had a brilliant day. We enjoyed the walk up to Orvieto via the old town gate (steep but lovely views). We also used the funicular. It is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and fun, cheap and quick to use. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff very friendly. Excellent breakfast. Really handy being so close to the station.
The location is awesome and it's great they have onsite parking. You are literally steps from the Duomo and can see it sitting in the courtyard. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The breakfast is good and is typical European continental style. They allowed us to keep our bags near the hotel desk on our checkout so we could explore the town a bit more before we left.
You can’t get a better location than this place. It’s a 5 minute walk to the Duomo, close to dining and shopping and just very convenient. Great to be able to drop off packages or run in to use the bathroom. Clean and hosts were very nice. They didn’t speak English, but used a translation app to communicate. Towels and linens are included, despite the description.
The staff and the cooking and the wines were exceptional, so too the view and the spectacular renovation of an old building into a modern design statement. The pool was good. It is about a 10-15 min drive into Orvieto which has the advantage of being quiet and away from the crowds, but means you tend to eat in the hotel, where the food is very good.
Beautiful location- Umbrian farmhouse with a view of Orvieto and a 10 minute drive to the town. House is on a farm, but the rooms are comfortable hotel rooms. Lovely hostess Angela, who went out of her way to help arrange side trips during our stay. Comparable to hotels that cost 2-3 times as much.
Surprisingly nice hotel with very friendly staff. Everything was spotless clean. The room had adjustable heathing, so I could adjust the temperature myself. Very very nice, because I have had too many cold hotels in Italy. Big and very clean bathroom. Perfect location right in the historical center.
We spent 4 days at Podere Sette Piagge. You can walk to Orvieto historic center in 15 minutes using the steep trail next to the hotel. The pool was a big plus to relax at the end of the day. We also had full meals on two evenings. The food was very good, excellent service and good prices too.
Location of the hotel is excellent in the center of Orvieto near cathedral. There are nearest parking and there are no explicit instruction on the website, where can you leave your car. So, you can use one of two parking places near Duomo and from there is 2-3 min to the hotel.
Clean and Comfortable apartment with 2 big bedrooms and windows. Excellent location, few minutes walk to many shops, restaurants and The Duomo. The owner is friendly and very helpful to answer all the questions. In our next visit to Orvieto, we will stay at Urbevetus again.
The location is perfect. The garage is close by, only a few minutes walk. The apartment is really lovely, the kitchen is very well equipped. The beautiful Duomo of Orvieto is a few minutes away and many nice restaurants, too. Carla is a very friendly and attentive host.
Best location in Orvieto, our bedroom window opens to the Piazza del Duomo. Well staffed and appointed boutique hotel includes an indoor cocktail area and outdoor umbrella patio.in the Piazza. Daily room service, great linens. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
This was my favorite place of our trip to Italy. The place is beautiful and located conveniently to Orvieto. The staff is fantastic. Dinner was great and the breakfast was amazing. I would highly recommend the massage and wine tour and tasting.
