APA Hotel Sugamo Ekimae, hotel in Akai

Set in Tokyo, just a minute walk from JR Sugamo Station's A4 Exit, APA Hotel Sugamo Ekimae features a public bath and compact yet functional rooms with free WiFi access.

Booked two rooms - one for a teenager and one for parents. Teenager loved the room. Parents found it pretty squishy. The hotel did put our rooms next door to each other which was not guaranteed so that was helpful and a real bonus. Free onsen and free tattoo covers were good. We had to check out late due to illness and the late checkout fee per hour was reasonable. When we did leave an hour early, the hotel refunded that hour’s fee, which was unexpected and generous of them. The location was great - short walk to station, lots of convenience stores and restaurants just outside, The staff were really pleasant and helpful.

OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka by Hoshino Resorts, hotel in Akai

Located in Tokyo, OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka by Hoshino Resorts is offers various facilities, such as a terrace, a shared lounge and a bar. This 4-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and free WiFi.

Location at yamanote line. It’s a bit farther away from shinjuku / ginza tourist areas but otsuka station had its own peace away from the city, while still having large staple stores right by the station (eg donki, Uniqlo, food). The area looks like a new development, mix of modern buildings. Room is very spacious for Japanese standards. Design well thought out, unique and playful

Guest House Wagokoro, hotel in Akai

Open from August 2017, Guest House Wagokoro offers a modern Japanese-style accommodation an 8-minute stroll away from JR Nippori Station. Each room comes with an en suite bathroom and toilet.

The service was excellent and the staff were incredibly friendly. We stayed for 2 nights. The room was a bit small but cozy and with air-conditioning. The location is not in central Tokyo so you will need to train around, however, the nearby station is within reasonable walking distance. Also, there is an incredible bakery that is a two-minute walk from here.

Hotel Wing International Select Ikebukuro, hotel in Akai

Hotel Wing International Select Ikebukuro features air-conditioned rooms with satellite flat-screen TV in the Toshima district of Tokyo.

The East side of Ikebukuro is my favourite place to stay in Tokyo and the location of this hotel is exceptionally good. The neighbourhood is calm, away from the bustle of the station but still within easy walking distance. The deluxe twin room was amazingly spacious and the beds were really big and comfortable. Pillows and duvets were nice and soft. The hotel itself is an older building that was partly renovated and updated. For example sink, toilet and shower appliances are newer and more modern than in other hotels of the same price range. The room was very comfortable to stay in and we had a lovely view across the city from our window! We also loved the vintage Taisho-inspired look of the hotel, it felt very cosy.

Facilities very good, spa pool excellent, and "happy hour" drinks a welcome surprise. Location ( Kitasenju) was a good compromise to Ueno options as it was just a few stops from the Ueno transportation hub direct from Narita. Plenty of eating option in area
