We chose the option with meals included and we were really impressed with the variety, quantity and quality of it. Every meal had several courses with excellent presentation and served by lovely staff. The onsen experience was amazing, with views of the river and trees. The shuttle service was very handy and the bus stop is literally outside the door.

Very friendly and welcoming host who managed to help us with very little English. A large room with big windows we could open and let in the fresh mountain air. A beautiful onsen. Biggest highlight was spectacular traditional dinner and breakfast. 5minute walk up hill to the Hakone Ropeway to Lake Ishi and Cablecar to Gora. We even got a glimpse of Mount Fuji from Ropeway. One of the highlights of our trip to Japan was visiting Hakone. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying in Gora and doing the loop up to the mountain and then on the sightseeing boat. The Hakone Free-Pass offers great value for money. The Hakone Open Air Museum and Gora Park Crafthouse were amazing

The hakone free pass is excellent and a must for all visitors. There is an abundance of sites and tourist offerings about the area. We did the railways the open air museum the boat and ropeway and achieved all of this within about 24 hours. It is a beautiful destination and a must from the hustle and bustle of the city life

    Hakone is a fun area.

Hakone is a fun area. It’s very easy to get around on buses, cable car, and ropeway (gondola). The FreePass is a must. The lake and Mt Fuji are beautiful but so is the surrounding forest. The museums are quite nice too. We especially had a fun time at the Open Air Museum.

    We liked Hakone very much.

We liked Hakone very much. It was not clear to us how long it takes to get to the ropeway and cable car and our hotel in. We had no idea it took almost an hour to get from our hotel to all the sights. We would have liked to see the open air museum, but we ran out of time. We only had one day and should have booked 2. Hakone needs 2 nights!!

A stunning rural area with plenty to see and do. The round trip by bus, boat, train, cable car and funicular works brilliantly and enables you to visit all the local sights which are stunning, especially the crater of Owakudani, where you travel by cable car over the crater from which sulfur gas fumes constantly rise,

Beautiful traditional hotel in the mountains. Our room was very spacious (twin with an onsen and it was so worth it). We have also checked out the communal onsen which had both an inside and outside pools and a very chill vibe. Amazing traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast - don't expect cereal or eggs, this is very different to a European breakfast. We loved walking around the hotel in our yucatas. Overall an amazing stay. I'd also recommend the Hakone sculpture park afterwards - it's a 20 minute walk away or a bus ride.

The whole property has a 140 years history, which could be seen as a representative of the ryokan culture in Hakone. We were very pleased to stay at the hotel. Staffs were very friendly, they even got a staff can speak Chinese, who gave us a lot of help. The private onsen and the villa itself were a great experience. My parents stayed in the villa and they felt like so relaxed after a long day. Food were great too. We also ordered a Sake and it was not very expensive. In total, everything was great in here.

While the location of this ryokan is not so convenient(we went there by Odakyu bus from Shinjuku, but there was a pickup service from hotel to nearest bus stop “Plaza hotel Mae”), my mom and I had a great time in their onsen with good food and the best facilities. All staff are well trained and very polite, every single thing they put in the room was delightful and thoughtful. It was worth to spend my vacation. Location was a little difficult to get to as it was located up a steep hill, but in return, you get the most beautiful view in the Hakone area of Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. The indoor and outdoor onsen were small but usually timing works out that you have the bath to yourself. It was more than enough, and the view from the outdoor onsen was beautiful. I wish I could have stayed longer! The villa was very spacious and many amenities were provided.

Beautiful hotel in front of the lake, secluded and quiet. Had a nice onsen. Both Japanese and Western in-house restaurants were fantastic (though a bit pricey). Had a shuttle bus to the train station, which is very convenient. Also had an hourly shuttle bus to Moto-Hakone which is very useful because the public transport options to the hotel are quite limited. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

    1. The location is 1 bus stop away from the hakone yumoto station, ie 10mins walk distance. 2. Our room came with dinner and breakfast and both meals were not too bad. I enjoyed breakfast more tbh. There is a restaurant beside the Ryokan if you do not enjoy the meals or doesn't suit your taste. 3. There are public and private reserved onsen. 4.
