The hotel was located right across from a supermarket which made it easy to get food and amenities. Parking was also easy to navigate - we drove a rental car so not having to pay for parking was a huge plus for us. It's also located near bus stops and trams stops.
We got a wonderful view overlooking Sakurajima from our room, and it was spacious enough for our group of 4.

We liked the nearby shops, the closeness to ferry and trainstation with Shinkansen accessibility. We found a lot of different style restaurants nearby.
In our experience was 1 Queen-bed too small for 2 european people.
The free space allowed us to only open 1 suitcase at a time.

Fascinating, lively city, interesting surroundings, very approachable people. Good food, too. Public transport is well-organised and affordable, and easy to navigate. Sakurajima's brooding, smoke-spewing presence provides the city with a unique atmosphere. I recommend the Kagoshima Brands store for souvenirs and omiyage (9-1 Meizanchō, Kagoshima). And don't miss Sengenan on any account!

Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard.
Kagoshima is a city with a large volcano in its back yard. It make for a different kind of vibe. It is also a port city with many ferries, mostly going south to the little island atchepelago that ends in Okinawa. Warmer weather than most of Japan but still pretty chill in January. Nice people, I found them friendly. I like the place.

The rural areas of southern Kagoshima are very different from the rest of Japan, with not so huge mountains and very spacious land. It gives a very nice and different vibe seeing all those flat farmlands spread along the see, with a backdrop of volcanoes and hot springs. There are also some good hiking spots. Especially, Yakushima is a paradise for hikers with its deep, pristine and quite untouched forests and streams.
Absolutely loved the place! It’s a hotel, but has a ryokan influence. The Japanese room was great, with enough room to move around and everything you need - water, tea, yukata, fridge etc
The onsen and traditional breakfast were great, too.
The location is perfect to visit many places of interest and the City View bus stop is just a couple of min walk from it.
My favourite thing was staff: they are all professional, friendly, welcoming, super kind and helpful. If I come back I will definitely stay here again, no doubt!
The staff were very helpful and friendly. It was convenient that a buffet dinner option was available for a fee within the hotel. The hotel restaurant also sold lovely cakes. The souvenir shop within the hotel sells some cute souvenirs. The 13th floor onsen and 12th floor lounge, both with a view of Sakurajima, were superb. It was very convenient to have the free hotel shuttle bus to Kagoshima-Chuo JR station. The hotel room's ambience music was very soothing.
The location was amazing as it was a short walk from Kagoshima Station. The walk to the stay is completely covered as well through covered mall. The surrounding area has a large selection of restaraunts while still being quiet enough for a peaceful stay.
For foreigners, if you've ever wanted to try living in a Japanese Apartment, this is a great way to add some variety into your accommodation line up during your stay in Japan.
Excellent location with the airport bus stop right beneath the building and Kagoshimachuo station and city tram stops just across the road. The underground passageway leading to the station had many small eateries and there were many shops in Amu Plaza across the road from the hotel. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was of good size and the facilities were clean. You can see Sakurajima in the lobby.
We stayed here one night before catching a ferry on to Yakushima - I wish we could have stayed longer as it's such a unique place! We loved the shared balcony for drinking a coffee in the morning looking out on the beach. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable, and so nice to hear the sea at night. We caught a taxi from Kagoshima station but there were also bus stops close to the hotel.
Hotel is centrally located but not noisy and quiet at night. Room was well equipped and well insulated. It kept a comfortable temperature even with heating disabled. Bedding, towels, etc were of high standard. Everything was clean, staff was friendly. They have a public bath on the top floor which does NOT enforce anti tattoo rules.
Large hot spring (onsen) and facilities were great. The outdoor hot spring boasts a view of the Volcano Sakurajima. Breakfast buffet was amazing with their huge selection of choices. It is an old, famous hotel in Kagoshima and it has history. Everywhere including our rooms were spotlessly clean. It also has a convenience store.
Very clean and considered spacious with 2 double beds! The area is very quiet and the room is quite soundproof. I love the double security at the door and check-in was quite smooth. The location is good too, It's just less than 5 minutes walk from the kagoshima chuo station and convenient store just nearby.
We loved everything about this hotel. Our room was beautiful and we were upgraded to a room with a view of the volcano. The spa was lovely. All the staff were very welcoming and polite. Shuttle bus every half hour to and from Kagoshimachuo train station and conveniently located next to a tram stop.
The standard twin room was relatively bigger than other hotels in Japan. The room itself was renovated and clean.
There is a parking lot right in front of the hotel and very close to Tenmonkan, restaurants and bar area.
Last but not least, the buffet breakfast was really good.
Great location for food choices and scenic walks around town. Kagoshima has a long history which can be enjoyed by walking around and learning about the statues.
Hotel room was decent size w a nice view. Bathroom and tub were a comfortable size.
Very convenient location a couple of minutes walk from Kagoshima-chuo Station, a couple of tram stops and the bus station for airport buses. Plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby, too.
The staff were extremely kind and helpful
Kind service especially during emergencies situation of typhoon attack. Great thx for the professional services of all staff of FAV Hotel and the offer of same rooms for catering 18 ppl of our need of extra stay on 9-10/8.
Conveniently located in the JR station. The room was spacious for two. The staff were extremely helpful with all our needs. Also they have a locker storage. Would stay again if ever back in Kagoshima.
The location is excellent, being in a covered street right by Kagoshima Station. The beds were comfortable. There's also a coin laundry machine in the hotel, which was very practical.
Excellent service, free laundry, free ice cream, free late night ramen and one of the nicest hotel room spas ever. Excellent central location. It was a wonderful surprise!!!
