Morino Hotel, hotel in Kiso

A 15-minute drive from Kiso Fukushima Station, Morino Hotel is a hotel located in the highlands of Mount Kisokoma.

We stayed here for one night, and it was really pleasant! We were picked up by the hotel's shuttle service from the train-station, which went smoothly. The room (japanese style), was really spacious! Staff were very helpful and friendly, and dinner and breakfast were excellent. I requested gluten-free meals and they were able to accomodate, which we greatly appreciated!

Fantastic room. Much bigger than I expected. Comfortable beds, a bath and a cosy seating area. Onsen facility was really nice. After check in there is an area where you can choose your own Hakata and varying styles of pillows that suit how you prefer to sleep, something I’ve not seen a hotel offer before.

Onyado Tsutaya, hotel in Kiso

Situated in Kiso and only 41 km from Takato Joshi Park, Onyado Tsutaya features accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking.

The family who runs this guest house has thought of everything. Looking for an extension cord so phone can be next to your futon? It’s in the room. Want to heat something up? Microwave on the 4th floor. You can adjust the lighting in the room, there’s extra blankets and I could go on. Everything is clean and cozy, and the family is very friendly. I especially liked the outdoor onsen.

Kiso Fukishima is a wonderful town and once we moved to a better Ryokan we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the region. Easy access for the Nakesendo walks and a very pretty town. Great walk up to the waterfall- steep but stunning.

Kiso Fukushima is one of the 69 post towns along the historic Nakasendo road which linked Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto. It was used for both commercial and military purposes. Kiso Fukushima is special in that it is a "gate town" which controlled passage, sort of like a modern-day border crossing. While certain historical features have been preserved, there are other more charming post towns along the Nakasendo that have been preserved intact. Kiso Fukushima does provide a variety of lodging and restaurants but is not a destination like other towns.

A great mountain retreat for onsen and exquisite dining experience. The ryokan has been in operation run by the same family for 12 generations. There is an old and newer section of the property. Old section is a little worn around the edges but still comfortable Japanese style space. The onsen is wonderful with indoor and outdoor option. Dinner and breakfasts were absolutely fabulous! We went in winter so not many guests. Not much to do but relax. We went for walks up and down the country roads.

We enjoyed visiting the Kozenji temple.

We enjoyed visiting the Kozenji temple. We found that two other traditional villages in the vicinity, Tsumago and Narai, were much more beautiful. However, this was more than made up for by the central location of Kiso within the Kiso Valley and the excellent transport options available - bus and train - which gave us convenient access to Mount Ontake, different points along the Nakasendo Trail, and Akasawa Natural Recreation Forest.

If u love nature this is the place.

If u love nature this is the place. Plenty of opportunities to get off the beaten path and just walk. We found emerald clear streams and waterfalls to jump into in the Atera Keikoku area. Alot more to see but we didn't have the time. A car is necessary to access alot of the secluded natural sites though.
