FAQs about hotels in Tokyo

See It to Believe It!

The capital of Japan, Tokyo is a vast, teeming metropolis nestled between mountains and Tokyo Bay. It’s so huge that you’ll have to come to grips with public transport and maybe even experience being pushed onto a train. Yes, it does actually happen!

Get your bearings by ascending the Tokyo World Trade Centre near the waterfront, and savour the fantastic views taking in the red-and-white Tokyo Tower and Shinkuju’s skyscrapers. North is Ueno, home to the best museums (including the Tokyo National Museum) and a large park bursting with cherry blossom in spring.

Equally tranquil are the Chiyoda Imperial Palace and Gardens, surrounded by water. Also in gardens is the Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine in Shibuya, a youthful district where neon abounds.

For more traditional Japanese culture, head to Asakusa whose Sensō-ji Buddhist temple is Tokyo’s oldest temple. Markets in the grounds sell a variety of wares, though shopping in Tokyo is, of course, fantastic wherever you go.

Whether you stay in a Japanese ryokan, luxury Tokyo hotel or a hostel, don’t fly out of Tokyo Narita Airport or Haneda Airport without having tried sushi. Another Japanese institution is the sento (public bath) and onsen (hot springs bath) – a must try. Also incredibly popular are Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Asia’s 2 most visited theme parks.

Japan is a great holiday destination!

Japan is a great holiday destination! It's very easy to get around using the Metro or JR lines but this can be a little bit confusing because several different companies operate different lines around Japan, not just the two afore mentioned. Don't worry. You'll work it out. The railway staff are very helpful. Just keep some cash on hand in case you have to fork out for unexpected expenses when changing lines. Toilets... wow! Every toilet I visited in Japan was very clean. Impressive! There are signs to tell everyone to disinfect the toilet seat and there are dispensers to make this possible! The toilets are so high tech it was a learning curve trying to operate them sometimes but this in itself was a welcome experience! Shinjuku and Shibuya are really fun places to visit. Get ready to go shopping, get ready to eat. Lots to see! Need years to visit everywhere just in these two locations! Some things in Japan are super cheap too... If you like a drink... alcohol is super cheap in Japan! Drinks are more expensive in restaurants but not unreasonably priced. If you got to 7-Eleven... beer, wine and spirits are very reasonably priced. You can't go wrong there! Tobacco is also quite reasonably priced if that's your thing. Finally, the people in Japan, although quite reserved, are very friendly, polite and helpful. There were several occasions in our travels with two kids and several heavy suit cases where people travelling on the metro stopped to help us carry our luggage up the many stair cases in the metro without hesitation. This really made me see the true nature of Japanese people and made our experience on the whole, the best experience we could have asked for. From my experience, Japanese people are very kind, helpful and respectful. Overall, I wish I had months in Japan instead of weeks! I'll be coming back again and again...!

Tokyo is a must visit city, it is very busy but the people are friendly and the trains are easy to navigate and always on time. If you have dietary requirements you would need to research where to eat. The food is delicious and plentiful. Some experiences need to be booked in advance, such as Go-karting and The sky view.

Tokyo was beautiful! There are many nice places to visit! Friendly people as well. I miss the trash can at the subway station and on the street, difficult to travel especially when you have a big luggage because not all station (at least all exits) has the lift for your luggage. You have to carry it on the stairs. Overall, it was amazing!🥰😍😘

The trains were initially hard to get used to but then very easy to get around. They were always on time and very clean. I would recommend you research your accommodation to the distance to the nearest train station as our first 3 nights we stayed somewhere where it was quite a distance. We absolutely loved the Shinjuku area. We ate at a few local ramen cafes and at the hotel in Shinjuku. Its a must to pre book as much as you can as its so busy and you will miss out on things. Also a tip we were given was to eat early in the evening. If you leave it too late the lining up is incredible.

The room was clean and nicely appointed. The WiFi was good and logging on to it was easy. The hotel is is a largely residential area with a good choice of shops and bars. The station is a few minutes walk away with good links across the city and a direct link to Shinjuku, Shibuya, and other well known areas. Kagurazaka is a very pleasant part of Tokyo and is an easy walk, it offers even more restaurants, bars, wine-bars. For beer lovers there are a few craft beer places nearby which serve a wide selection of first class beers.

The location is excellent. If you go to the main street Yasukuni dori and walk for about 20 minutes, you will get straight to Toho Cinema, the center of Shinjuku. It's always bright and fun there. You can walk until the morning and then return to the hotel on foot, very convenient. The beautiful Shinjuku Goen Park is also near. Shinjuku Station is a 30-minute walk away. Bed linen is clean, changed daily. There is a socket. The hotel is not noisy. There is a toilet on the floor. There are separate showers, enough for everyone.

The rooms were surprisingly big given Tokyo hotels are pretty compact. The hotel was 5 mins away from the train station. There were restaurants outside including Denny's and convenience stores were 2-3 mins away. The staff were nice and some even spoke fluent English. Another nice thing was this spot in Ginza was not as crowded and busy compared to places like Shibuya, Shinjuku, etc. The train station nearby also was not as crowded.
