Great location! In the heart of the street food and restaurant area, super close to Asia Culture Center. Although in a super busy street, our room was totally silent.

We booked two rooms.
The wheelchair accessible room and the bathroom are barrier-free, with roll-in shower. However, wheelchair users should bring their own shower chairs and other support equipment as necessary.
The standard room is also accessible to manual wheelchairs, with assistance. There is a low step into the bathroom (about 8 cm, refer to the photo). Once in, bathroom is accessible with a roll-in shower.
All rooms are spacious and clean, each is big enough for two wheelchair users.
The hotel has its own parking facilities, and the lobby is clean, professional and inviting.
The staff are helpful and friendly.
Breakfast is a generous spread (American/Korean) for the price.
Featuring a business centre, Gwangju Madrid Hotel is just a 3-minute walk away from Gwangju Songjeong KTX Station served by Line 1. Free WiFi access is available in all rooms.

Being the cultural and economic hub of the southeastern part of Korea, Gwangju is worth visiting if you're interested in this country. Also, Gwangju is the best place in Korea that hosts and preserves historical heritages regarding the military/dictatorial government in the last century. You're strongly recommended to visit the former Jeonnam provincial office and Jeon Il Building to witness the history of brave Korean people.

I stayed for two days and I think it was suitable for my needs.
Make sure to go to Sajik Park and to the observatory there, sunset up there was so beautiful! Also there's a café so you can get a take-away coffee to the observatory deck and enjoy it there (or in the café if you prefer that, there are large windows with great views too). When you go in the evening, there are light installations in the park and reflected to the tower.
Make sure to know basic Korean when you go to Gwangju or have a good translator since not everyone speaks English. I speak a bit of Korean so it was okay.
T-Money card works well here and it's easy to get from the airport to the city by subway.
If you are BTS ARMY like me, be sure to check out J-hope art in the Penguin Village and Gwangju Kpop Street!

Gwangju is a city of culture, arts and history.
Gwangju is a city of culture, arts and history. The people are kind and the food is great as well. Head to Yangrim-dong if you want a plenitude of cafes full of aesthetic. If you’re looking for places to eat, Dongmyeong-dong is where you should be. And Asia Culture Center is great to chill even after the sunset. The best part is that everything listed above is very close to each other. I visited Gwangju about 6 times and I can’t wait for the next. I love this city!

Of all the street shopping areas I have visited so far, I really enjoyed Gwangju's Chungjang-ro. We also visited the May 18 memorial and public cemetery, which had great information about the democratization movement.

We really appreciated the educational opportunities at places such as the 5.18 Archives, Liberty Park and Asian Cultural Center. For Americans.like us, learning.about the U.S. role in the military slaughter of Gwangju citizens in May 1980 was very important. The beauty of the Bamboo Forest and mountains nearby.was.stunning. Subway to the 5.18 Liberty Park (KDJ Convention Center stop) was easy enough to.figure out.

Gwanbju is wonderfull city, but I had litle time to visit because I participate in Fina Masters.
I eat all around between swimming pool and Prince hotel.
It is easy only if you know whwre exactly leed bus lines. I could not find som kind of touristic card with bus lines, I found only card with metro line. After few day and big time to study Gwangju it was easier but stil fatiguant.
The lady who owns this guesthouse is very kind and caring. She has a great place: cosy and neat. I could use the kitchen, and she makes sure I had everything I needed during my stay. The bedroom was very comfortable and a lots of cosmetic products and equipment were at disposal.
I could leave my luggage at the optician's shop after my check out because my flight was in the evening.
A very good place that I recommend a 100% and would definitely come back on my next visit to Gwangju.
Hotel rate was not expensive compared to other hotels in the area. Everything in there is of good quality and very clean. They had restaurant, cafe, gym, parking area and pantry open for all guests. Location is at the heart of Gwangju and walking distance to shopping district and everything else. The owners are very hands on, friendly and generous. It almost felt like our second home and we will always come back to this place.
Breakfast was included in the price, which made this hotel really nice to me.
The room was very big and the bed really large, and so clean as well !
There was also a steam and air cleaner for clothes ! Very convenient !
Shampoo, conditioner and body wash soap in the bathroom, so no need to take mine.
Parking places are available !
We enjoyed our stay there in a calm and quiet place.
Everything went well with my stay at Athene Motel. Its near the May 18 Memorial Park and Uncheon Reservoir, there are 2 bus stops near and 1 train station that makes it accessible.
The room is clean and spacious for one person. The hosts are kind, they let me store my luggage even after check out and come back for it. The free breakfast is basic but good. Recommended when you go to Gwangju.
The guesthouse was very clean and comfortable, located in a quiet area but barely a ten minute bus down to main shopping streets & restaurants. A simple breakfast was available each morning and the owner is so lovely. We were greeted at the gate as soon as we arrived and she was more than happy to answer any questions we had. I would highly recommend staying here when visiting Gwangju.
The room was really spacious and you had an automatic door lock system (no room keys/card needed). The staff was really friendly :) if there was no one at the reception you could ask the café staff for help (the café is next to the reception/on the ground floor of the hotel). It's very close to the subway station and several bus stops.
The receptionists were nice and helpful, they upgraded my room for free. The location of the hotel is also great; it is near Chungjangro Street (a lot of shops, cafes, and restaurants) and 5-10 min. walk to the public transportation. The room is quite clean, and the room facilities were complete and fully functioning.
Good sized newish, clean room. Comfortable bed. 75” tv. Simple breakfast included in price. Toast, cereal, juice, rice, kimchee and 2 minute noodles. Few minutes walk to Gwangju Station. Plenty of food places down the road straight across from the station. Heap of places up a side street doing duck soup.
The hotel is nicely located, in the center of Gwangju. It has all necessary facilities, private bathroom with towels, toothbrush and toothpaste. Very big and comfortable (especially for Korea) bed, big TV.
The hotel is pretty close to Downtown and further travel destinations.
I was allowed to leave my big luggage at the hotel while traveling for a few days at Seoul before coming back to stay this night.
We liked that the hotel was near the center and the food street, but still pretty quiet. We didn't have any problems parking and the room was very spacious and clean. The staff was also helpful.
I liked that its close to some sights and many restaurants available. It was nice to have Korean style breakfast but the coffee was weak. I liked that there were a variety of amenities.
Easy to get to Sangmu station and 5.18 park.
There’s a styler in the room to dry clothes.
You can watch youtube or Netflix on a 50 inch tv.
Many restaurants near to the hotel.
