This was our second stay here which was 7 years ago. The property has much improved and is far better than it used to be. We only stayed as it is close to the entrance for the rainforest walk but we were pleased we chose here again due to the improvements and the staff were far more friendly than they were last time. Breakfast was nice but basic, we didn't have the evening meal. I certainly think it deserves more than a 6 score as shown on booking.com so I have given an 8. It is expensive but there isn't much choice at this entrance to the rainforest. We have visited from both entrances and we consider this to be the best and quietest.

The hosts are very nice! The food was good as well. It is a 10 min tuktuk drive to the park entry and I can really recommend the place. They do have hot water for shower as well. They helped out and organized transportation. Everything was perfect.

Gem Fields Rest Hotel has got to be the most convenient hotel for anyone passing through or staying in Rathnapura. Whether you are travelling by car or public transport the hotel works well being just a short walk from the town centre. At the same time it is far enough away from the hubbub to feel calm, almost rural.
Bhanu is a fabulous host who goes out of his way to ensure his guests enjoy their stay. Brilliant breakfasts which can be provided to personal taste are served on the lovely balcony overlooking the garden. Bhanu is a wealth of information on local sights and the Sri Lankan culture in general.
