Saldus was first mentioned in 1253
Saldus was first mentioned in 1253 From 1562 to 1795, the Saldus region was part of the Duchy of Kurzeme and Zemgale. The original name "Salden" was replaced by the German "Frauenburg" for almost four centuries. The name of Frauenburg is more associated with the former castle of the Order, which was located on the left bank of the stream flowing into Ciecere. Like the whole of Kurzeme, the Saldus region became part of the Russian Empire in 1795. Administratively, the Saldus region was part of the Kurzeme governorate during the tsar's time. Car parking is just right in front on a busy street, but there's a large parking space in the inner yard.
